I have about 13.3 volts dc and lights run very hot. they will soften and melt the adhesive strip on the back. what am i doing wrong? using in rv

These lights come in 12v or 5v configuration. But they come in the same box and are not marked which voltage the strip is for. So there are mixups in what you get. I got two boxes of 5v lights when they should have been 12v. I got the same overheating as you did. I fault the manufacturer for not marking them

What is the maximum allowable operating temperature of the LED strip ?

The specification on the website is Working Temperature: -20 to 50℃ (-4 to 122 degrees F) Working and operating temp are the same

Is there a way to connect the sections without the wires?

You can use the provided pig-tails, but best to wire multiple light strips with no more than one or two powered on end to end. I found too great a voltage drop, when I powered more than two in series. For best brightness and product life, run
