Holiday in the Hamptons: A Captivating Second Chance Romance Set in a Coastal Paradise (From Manhattan with Love Book 5)

My Review: Second chance at love stories are quickly becoming my favorite trope and this book is a prime example as to why. It was so good! So much emotion...I found myself tearing up several times throughout the story. So this story... Fliss is one of three siblings. She's a twin with Harriet and they have an older brother (Daniel, I think, if I'm remembering right). They all grew up with the fear of their father, whose temper was legendary. He and Fliss were the two that got into it the most. Their summers were their escape when they'd all flee to the Hamptons, someplace their father rarely went. That changed on the twins 18th birthday. He showed up, ruining the day. Fliss escaped to the beach where she ran into 22 yo Seth. Seth was one of her brother's best friends. While he was comforting her, things got a bit out of control...and that's really all the reader knows. Because then the book picks up 10 years later when Fliss lives in NYC and runs a dog-walking business with her twin sister. She's heard from Daniel that Seth is in town, in her area of town, working at the vet clinic where she takes her client's dogs. Not cool. She cannot run into him. So, when the opportunity arises to go help her grandmother in the Hamptons, Fliss runs. What she doesn't know is that Seth was just in NYC temporarily and that he lives in the Hamptons. Oh, and he just happens to be the first person she runs into. This story was so good. My heart hurt for both characters, but especially for Fliss. She grew up learning to protect herself by hiding her emotions. To show vulnerability of any sort to her father and he would exploit that. So, she's learned to bite back her responses, never allow herself to feel. Seth knows all this. He and Fliss may not have been married for long, but he knows her better than anyone, possibly even better than her twin sister, Harriett does. Their marriage may have ended, but the feelings never did for either of these characters. Fliss ran. Seth made the mistake of not chasing after her. But he's older now. He's not planning to make that mistake again. Like I said, this book was just everything. It was emotional and sweet and heart-wrenching. I fell in love with both Seth and Fliss. I loved them, especially as they began to sort through things. Seth is the kind of guy that makes women swoon. He's going to fight for Fliss, for them, this time and that's a gorgeous thing. I loved this story! Highly recommend!! I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review, but purchased a print copy of the book to have on my keeper shelf.

This is the first book I’ve read by Sarah Morgan and it won’t be the last. I can totally relate to building walls and to Fliss’s childhood. I enjoyed reading the story of Fliss and Seth, their heartaches, struggles, and trying to find their way back to each other.

I really enjoyed reading Holiday in the Hamptons book #5 in the Manhattan With Love series. I love second chance romance and in Fliss and Seth case they really needed a second chance at love and as much as Fliss was trying to ignore her true feelings towards Seth in the end she had to face the truth and talk about their past in order to have a real future together. Holiday in the Hamptons was funny, sexy and a fun summer read!

Felicity Knight is one part of the owners of Bark Rangers a company the specializes in reliable dog walkers across Manhattan. She has built this business with her twin and loves the organization of it all. She has a relationship from the past that has popped back up and is the center of this story.

I hadn't read any of Sarah Morgan's books before the first one of this series but fell in love with her characters. Also I love how she weaves all the wonderful cats and dogs into her story lines.

Originally posted on Tales to Tide You Over One of the reasons I like reading romances is because of how they focus on problem solving. Characters may run away in the short term, but ultimately they have to knuckle down and do the hard work. People talk about the romancing and courting in these novels, but that’s not what’s important to me. Whether it’s a billionaire who never had to fight for anything or a single mom trying to do right by everyone but herself, or any number of other traditional romance plots, most romances look at what tears us apart, and what we need to do to pull together and stay that way. It’s never simple, and it could be internal and/or external forces opposing, but it’s always worth the effort. Why is that important? Well, Holiday in the Hamptons might have an innocuous title, but it’s knee deep in the big problems. The book description barely hints at what’s going on, but you learn Felicity, or Fliss as she’s called, is a mental abuse survivor from the prologue (which you really should not skip over). Maybe half her side of the problems between her and Seth are a result of survival training in childhood. This is a second chances story, and both of them had to grow up a bit from their first whirlwind relationship and quick marriage with even quicker divorce. Fliss is not there at the beginning, but Seth has realized what he lost all those years ago and is willing to stick it out until she is ready. Even so, he doesn’t understand the depths of how this has affected her, or how much his own childhood is coloring his perceptions about what she’s doing and feeling. I loved the many themes mixed into the story. The strongest were tied between perceptions versus reality, and how perfect is subjective and involves much more than looks. The first theme opened up all sorts of amusing moments because Fliss is a twin, but the two of them have very different personalities. At the same time, underlying Fliss’s attempts to pretend to be her sister are complicated fears and deep-seated beliefs hammered into her through a lifetime of shielding her sister from harm. I can’t speak to Seth’s side without spoiling some stuff, but I’ll say at least that his feelings are based on more than just outward appearance, and always had been. Seth being a veterinarian and Fliss working with dogs offers opportunities to open up, and many lessons in how to help someone suffering from PTSD. Usually PTSD stories are of soldiers, so I appreciated the look at how abuse victims are impacted even long after the abuse has stopped. The delayed reveal of the details of their past relationship only annoyed me up to the point where we start to get Seth’s opinion. It becomes clear what happened then is both very tied to the present and part of what Fliss has to come to a new understanding about. This is also true of the time jumps and summaries throughout the story that allow it to take place over an extended period with enough time for Fliss to begin to heal realistically. There were many wonderful supporting characters, including a romance author and a bunch of dogs, that were fully fleshed and not always supportive. There was one disappointing moment for me with a secondary character, but it was well within that person’s nature. I just hope she grows out of it. That disappointment is a big part of the theme of perfect being different for each person. No one else can recognize your perfect, so should not interfere when you’ve found it. This is a complex story, and I could go on about it longer, but I’ll stop here with the following: Fliss and Seth are on a difficult journey. The characters, lead and supporting, are very real, and because of that, they can be frustrating. There are on-screen sex scenes, but both necessary to the plot and not described in significant detail. True to the romance promise, the book ends in a happily ever after, but it’s a hard road to get there with a lot to think about on the way. A strong tale well worth the read. P.S. I really enjoyed this lovely book. Seth and Fliss are heartmelting and handsome. The story was a nice read. I couldn't put it down. I really love the books from this author. And Holidays in the Hamptons absolutly convinced me. Please read and enjoy this book.

Sarah Morgan has done it again! Holiday in the Hamptons is a beautifully written, feel-good story that immediately transports you to the sunny shores of the Hamptons. The characters are relatable and full of charm, and the romance is swoon-worthy without feeling forced. I was hooked from the first page and didn’t want it to end. Perfect for a relaxing read or a beach holiday vibe – truly deserving of 5 stars!
