Great quality and larger than I thought!
This flat spoon is awesome for stir fry’s and all kinds of stove top cooking. I how was expecting it to be small but it’s thick and sturdy and has a long handle. I love it.

Well made and excellent for use on cold, warm or hot meals!
I have always leaned towards grabbing my mother's old, large, wooden spoon! My mother's spoon is nearing the century mark as her mother used it often before handing it down. So what is so special about a wooden spoon? Ever have a melamine/plastic spatula snap in half as you tried to mix that delicious batch of potato salad? Wooden spoons tend to not only provide you leverage but rarely break unless you are trying to break one! They hold up well against weight, mixing almost anything (always buy your wooden spoon/spatula/mixing spoon with a long handle that is thick like these offered by Joyce Chen. They are well made and you have extreme confidence when you are mixing anything that is heavy and that you are trying not crush or mash! Though these wooden utensils would mash anything fairly well! My preference has been to do a quick wash in the sink and not place them in the dishwasher- to prevent the wood from drying out.

I just wish they'd explain the funky smell
Yes, as some other reviewers have mentioned, these tools have a funky smell. I would not mind it as much if I knew what it was. If it's something that naturally occurs when the bamboo is cured the way these tools are, and it's not in any way indicative of some chemical that's going to hurt me, then they just need to say so.But I've used the rice paddles very frequently since I've gotten these tools just a few days ago, and they've been through the dishwasher, and I haven't had any kind of bad reaction to using them (and I'm usually pretty chemically sensitive), so I'm going to say I think this must be "a feature and not a bug."I bought two sets, thinking the wok spatulas would be curved more to follow the curved shape of my round-bottomed wok and that I'd use two of them when cooking, one for each hand. They are curved slightly, but not as much as I'd expected for a wok spatula. Yes, I will use them, but they weren't what I expected. The spoons are your typical wooden spoons, except made of bamboo (which is wonderful), and they will serve for what I'd normally use them for.But the rice paddles...I love these paddles! With their large surface, they are great for folding in ingredients like English peas in tuna and pasta salads, and I find them much easier on my arthritic hands than longer-handled spoons. I mix five-minute artisan bread dough manually using a spoon (pushing the flour into the dough to incorporate it all), and one of these paddles is perfect for that purpose. Also, they perfectly fit down inside a wide-mouth mason jar with just a little room to spare, which makes them extremely handy for my sprouting and fermenting exploits. For the money, I'm glad I got these. They are definitely a lot nicer than your typical wooden spoon set and ought to last a long time.

Bamboo makes a difference
I started out using wood and cheap material stir fry sets from department stores. They certainly served me well throughout my college years. I thought there were no differences. But with all types of products, there are. This bamboo set is no exception. It has a nice feel, almost as if they were meant to fit into your hands and for cooking. To put it simply, it feels soft and comfortable. As advertised, they will not scratch or damage pans, pots, and woks. They are smooth and treat all of your cookware like a baby. The bamboo does not absorb much moisture, which is godsend for cooking. There are three different cuts: 9-inch rice paddle, 12-inch mixing spoon, 13-inch stir-fry spatula. The small details can make a HUGE difference. The 13 inch stir fry spatula is very versatile. It can be used for rice, mixing, and of course, cooking. It's good that the surface of the spatula is flat and can hold a good amount of food. This is great when you want to just check how the cooking is going. The different pieces are enjoyable to use.The handle isn't anything special, but that's okay. It's a normal shorter neck, and then widens at the bottom of the handle. There is also a hole to hang the pieces onto a hook or cabinet. If you're willing to pony up a little more for a quality set, this is certainly an excellent option. Give this a try and feel the difference. You may not want to use metal or plastic spatulas & spoons ever again.

Great quality and useful all purpose set!
I have had this set for more than 5 years. All pieces are still perfect and I find the set useful for more than just stir fry. I use them daily to cook everything. I do not like using plastic spoons/utensils to cook as they pose a health concern, so the bamboo is a great option. The rice paddle is obviously most useful for rice and that is all I use it for. The mixing spoon is useful for any kitchen task that requires a spoon. The stir fry spatula I use to chop and stir meat when browning or to scrap the bottom of the pan when making a sauce. I do not put these utensils in the dishwasher and simply handwash and let air dry most times. I love this set and definitely recommend them for their usefulness and quality.

Rice Enuf...
It's so light in weight almost hard to hold. Handle is so short I have to pull my fingers back to keep out of rice when scooping. Not thrilled. Never had one so short before. Should've checked dimensions first.

What an incredible deal for such a good product!
These are an upgrade from any other wooden spoon you ever tried. I bought an expensive electric wok for Christmas and these are the utensils I bought to use in it. They work really well. I hand wash them to keep them from drying out. I love their thick construction and generous spoon real estate. The short handle makes them easier to store too. I also got the three piece set so I never run out of utensils to use. Such a terrific deal!

Cheap and great!
Great for stir frying just about anything. Not afraid of melting it like my plastic turners. Looks great, fits nicely in the hand. Very high quality. Would recommend!
