Very warm mitten, requires liner glove beneath, excellent value
I bought these in Feb 2018 and decided that now, nearly 2 full years later, is the time to give these gloves an honest review.I will preface this review by stating that, to me, choppers are the big outer mittens that you wear when it's cold as hell and you need to spend considerable time outside. To me, a mitten is an item that you can wear without wearing an inner, liner glove; whereas a chopper is a big hunk of leather that you wear over top of a smaller liner glove. I did not know this for nearly 2 seasons: I treated these choppers as mittens, without understanding that the liner glove is required for maximum return. Since that revelation, these easily became a 5-star chopper. Prior to that, they were 3-star, at best. These choppers have a 2-layer design, but different than most other leather choppers. They are bulky. They are not very agile. They are very warm when worn properly.First up is the outer layer. It is made from cowhide leather. You can smell it easily. It feels tough and it has a nice yellow tanning to them. Next up is the inner layer. This is a fleece layer that feels as durable as the outer cowhide. Finally, the inner and outer layers are not sewn tightly together. In other words, the inner mitten-lining is independent of the outer leather. This creates a small air barrier between the 2 layers. This barrier helps to provide slightly better insulation, particularly compared to other choppers that have an inner liner sewn directly to the outer layer. These choppers are bulky, there's no way of hiding that. With or without an inner liner glove, you will have a hard time manipulating anything. I take my dogs for walks wearing these. My hands stay so warm. They're the last thing on my mind. However, holding a simple leash is really difficult. They are so bulky that you have to wrap the leash around your hand several times and hope it stays. Holding a shovel or anything else is tough, but doable. A snowblower is easy to operate wearing these, however.Yesterday, it was 0°F here and had just snowed 10". I put on my knit gloves and these choppers. I also wore a parka, high snow boots, face mask, hat, etc. However, I was never cold, especially my hands. The best feature on these choppers is the tight cuff. Very few choppers have a tight cuff like this. Most are open, leaving your wrists exposed to cold. The cuff cinches that. Your coat will easily fit over the cuff. For the price, there's no way you can find better than these.

warm
These are nice mittens, I use them when out feeding the animals and out on the tractor. They keep my hands warm, gloves do not work for me as well. I like the durability of them as they are for work use. I got a mens small, I could use a smaller size as I am a woman, I didn't see a smaller option to order, a smaller size for me might give me a little better dexterity, but these work. They slip on and off easily, when opening gates and such.

Very bulky!
These mitts will easily keep your hands warm in cold environments, but that is there only qualifier. They are extremely bulky, refuse to bend, and impossible to grip a snow shovel or anything else. It is too late to return them, but I will eventually come across a highway crew that is working in the winter here in northern Minnesota, (one guy on a shovel and 4 guys standing watching) and give them to one of the four guys.

My Wife Says They Make Me Look Sexy
My wife thinks they make me look sexy--she likes me best when I'm all bundled up and ready to go out and away into the Minnesota cold. Strange. I wouldn't recommend these gloves around the house as simple tasks, like typing this review, takes forever. But again, the wife thinks they are sexy. The gloves prevent the frostbite caused by so many of the other gloves our children wore in Minnesota winters. Moreover, when they (occasionally) get wet, the absence of thinsulate actually makes them dry faster. We also spray them with a coat of leather waterproofing and that does magic. Each member of our 15 passenger van family uses these gloves as their primary, play and work gloves. With that many kids, you are right, I might be better off not wearing these gloves around my sainted wife.
