Great overall Blu-ray release for a terrific, ageless comedy!
This review is focused on the picture and sound quality of the new Blu-ray release from Shout! Factory, released in early December, 2020. The quality of the story has been reviewed extensively by others here, so I will just discuss the brand-new Blu-ray version.I bought this as an Amazon pre-order, which arrived a few days ago, and I went to view it with trepidation, because I think Shout! Factory generally makes inferior products. However, this TWINS Blu-ray was a pleasant surprise! The picture quality is the best I've ever seen for this film, and I've seen it many times; I own the DVD, and I've rented it on Amazon Prime Video in supposedly "high-definition," but their high-definition version of this movie just isn't that great; it was quite soft in both the focus and the colors. Not so this new Blu-ray disc, however! It has a vivid picture, with bright colors that make this film look fairly recent, although it would not be confused with a movie that was shot with high-definition cameras as they do nowadays. But it's a really good high-definition rendering of what is a 32-year-old,1988 film, after all, and the focus is quite sharp, the colors are wonderful as already noted, the sound is excellent, and there is just nothing to fault in regard to the video or audio. I've seen some other movies from the same year that had even better Blu-ray pictures-- but very few-- as TWINS is an excellent Blu-ray. And it also has English subtitles for the hearing impaired, which I really enjoy, and it has four extras, including 2 interviews done in 2020, one with Ivan Reitman, the other with Herschel Weingrod, one of the writers; also, there is a theatrical trailer and a stills gallery. As much as I can't stand Shout! Factory for the way they butchered the ALL IN THE FAMILY, season 7 release, Shout! Factory's first seasonal release for that classic TV series (the first 6 seasons were released by Sony Pictures), plus the fact that they have refused to fix the problem they caused there (they butchered the picture in every episode), but the fact is, their TWINS Blu-ray is a winner. It has a fine high-definition picture, which is really all I was seeking, and is a nice, full, Blu-ray offering for this outstanding comedy. I recommend this Blu-ray highly.

Way Ahead of Its Time
Twins (rendered in its title sequence logo as TWiiNS) is a 1988 American buddy comedy film produced and directed by Ivan Reitman about unlikely twins (Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito) who were separated at birthOverarching plot a side, the success of this film rests mainly on the shoulders of both DeVito and Schwarzenegger; their Stark differences combine and result in a relationship that is surprisingly charming and naturally comedic. Schwarzenegger is tragically naive about the world around him and has good intentions. In addition to this, he is insistently peaceful and prefers nonviolent methods of conflict resolution despite his intimidating figure. DeVito is sharp - arguably perhaps a little mean-spirited - and makes up for his small stature with tall bargains and smooth- talking shenanigans. The plot isn't much deeper than your average comedy, but this movie does a good job of tying up any loose ends by the time it is over. In addition to this, there are two plots woven into one another - one being the quest to find “the mother” in this situation and the second one being handling a sticky scenario DeVito's character has found himself in - without becoming too confusing for the audience. Each conflict is given its own amount of weight as it is appropriate to do so, and neither one feels unnecessarily dragged out or completely beaten to death. The resolution is fairly predictable, but the journey is still fairly enjoyable and is one the entire family can enjoy. Considering the year when this was released, it is only fair to make a comment regarding the humor present in this film. The best word to describe the comedy that makes up this film is wholesomely appropriate in that it doesn't depend on things such as homophobia, racism, and even sexism to carry a tune. In fact, ‘Twins’ seems very ahead of its time and embraces the opportunity to turn things such as toxic masculinity on its head in a manner that begins to inch into mockery of traditional gender roles and the like without becoming too overzealous.Stands the test of time;Devito and Schwarzenegger are simply a match made in heaven!I would recommend! :)

Fun Movie; Weak PQ
A former favorite b/c of Arnold and Danny but I've never seen worse picture quality. Unrestored/remastered films from decades earlier look better. The larger your screen, the worse this will look. In the scene where the four drive off in the Caddy for the money it looks like they're filming through water. Shout Factory has done good work before but just let this one slide letting Arnie's name carry the sales. Ok, you got me this time SF but next time...
