Bricks & Brownstone: The New York Row House

The packaging is wonderful. The book fits into its own specially made box so the cover doesn't get damaged. That's the beginning of the fabulousness. The book itself has these glorious color photos and drawings of row houses. What I really appreciated beside the amazing photos, was the history of the row houses. In my job as a real property manager who worked for the city of New York for almost 40 years, I saw many examples of row houses in Central Harlem and the upper East Side. I didn't know the history of them. This book is perfect for learning their history and it is glorious. I'm so glad I bought this book.

I bought this for my son in law who's an architect living in Brooklyn but thoroughly perused it before I gave it to him. For anyone interested in architecture, brownstones, the history of this style of architecture, it's necessary, beautiful and very well written.

The photography is wonderful and the stories are great. Well worth the money.

What more can I say? Brilliant photographs, compelling text. As a long-time New Yorker, this book really opened my eyes to an aspect of the city's built heritage that I'd too often taken for granted. Even if you think you know the city, think it possible you might be mistaken...and find here what you might well have missed.
