My Roland FD-8 High-hat cymbal is like new again!
My Roland electronic drumset has sat unused for at least a couple of years and lately I decided to dust it off and start playing again. I soon discovered that the high-hat wasn't responding to the foot pedal unless I practically stomped on it. After some quick online research, I tried making cuts in the rubber piece that had hardened over time. There was some improvement, but nothing close to working as it should. So then I turned to Amazon and found this solution, which includes the rubber part, actual sensor pad, and silicone grease. I took my time and cleaned up everything, removed the old sensor and rubber piece, and reassembled everything...total time was probably 30 minutes at best. I used Goo-Gone to remove the residual glue from the old sensor pad. I am happy to report that the fix with new parts worked perfectly and now the cymbal behaves like a real high-hat. Considering I was thinking I would have to buy a whole new FD-8 foot pedal for around $200, this worked perfectly for around 1/10th of the cost. I am really happy with this product and highly recommend this to anyone looking to get their Roland high-hat working again.

It fixed my pedal!
Looks exactly like factory parts. Rubber and actuator sensor fits perfectly. It also came with grease (for the top of the rubber and the white wheel.) Super easy to install. See instructions on youtube. I suggest loosening the 1/4" jack and little circuit board so you can easily unplug that ribbon cable. It just pulls out.

This works!
I watched a few YouTube videos and thought that replacing this part would be difficult, but turned out to be a breeze. After taking the foot pedal apart, I realize that the only part I needed to replace the rubber piece. Then again, since I had already opened up the foot pedal, I decided to replace the sensor as well. One thing to note, there aren’t any instructions, and it does not tell you what to do with the gel. The gel is for the rubber piece. if you look up some of the YouTube videos, you will see how to apply the gel to the rubber piece.

Great replacement
Simple and easy fix for the drumset, the pedal feels just like it did when I first got it.

No "Chick" sound
This replacement pack seemed to be of good quality but testing with an ohm meter the sensor did not seem to put out quite as many ohm's as the original. I used this to rebuilt a FD-8 Hi-hat pedal for my 90 year old father that, believe it or not still plays drums. He has replaced 2 pedals (new) that gave him the "chick" sound that you get when keeping time with your hi-hat. I did not get this back when replacing both the rubber actuator and the electronic part. If you're using this for accents or washing your hats this would probably work fine but if you need the "chick" sound I could not reproduce that with this unit. I am purchasing another unit that specifies it works with an FD-6-8 hoping their is a difference somewhere.

And just like that, good as new
I used to have to practically stand on my FD-8 pedal to close the HH, and of course nuance was not an option. An online search told me I was not the only one suffering. This video showed me the product and gave a link to order the rebuild kit. It took a day to get it, and 15min tops to do the deed, and now the pedal has great feel and works as it should. As far as I can tell identical to a new pedal.

Easy fix for a malfunctioning high hat pedal
The soft rubber parts inside the pedal harden and the electrical circuits inside the pedal can sometimes fail. This kit addresses both issues. I didn't bother to troubleshoot which one(s) had gone bad because the price for individual kits wasn't much less than the combined kit. Once the pedal is apart, replacing the internals was very easy. I recommend doing them both once the pedal stops functioning. The drummer is happy with the return of his beloved high hat on the Roland edrums.
