It gave was hopeful
The book told a story that gave me hope because he survived Alzheimers. It did give me and my husband the solution to get the recode protocol but it is not affordable. We wanted more information on how he followed the protocol for his particular case.

One man's journey out of dementia.....
Let me preface my review by saying I worked closely with Francis McNear for a number of years at a school for emotionally impaired children in a high-stress environment. At the time I had no idea that he was beginning to experience memory loss. Frank was the school's 'rock'...the only constant in an ever-shifting, highly volatile situation. So, because of my personal background with him, I can speak from experience and say that he is one of the most trustworthy individuals I know. I also know that he was never one to over-estimate or blow a situation out of proportion. So, having said that, after reading his book I can unequivocally say that whatever his experiences with the onset and ongoing dementia he describes is probably more acute that you are reading. That he admits to dementia and is relating his story is testimony to his belief in the ReCode program and it's value because, you see, Frank is a very private person. Anyone reading this book, which I highly recommend, would do well to believe in Frank and his story - and put in place those things which would help with your own situation or that of a loved one. I cannot stress enough how honest, forthright and committed Frank was, and is, to helping others. I hope this book gives you the insight and impetus to make changes in your situation. He has a load of references and information just waiting to be plucked. Good luck and God Bless. And thank you Frank for sharing your story.

Humility, honesty, hope......
This book has gifted me the feeling of connection and empathetic understanding that I have not been able to realize during my two year recovery from a massive brain surgery that left me with a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). I have since felt isolated, even ostracized, from the highly functioning social and professional life that was once the only world I knew. As a clinical social worker, and as fate would have it, I had worked with patients of Alzheimers and dementia, always striving to bestow comfort and compassionate understanding, but never able connect on a level of someone who had been there. The stories and experiences in this book are articulated with an honesty and intimacy that I could relate to, but have never been able to understand, much less describe. Familiar feelings of shame, confusion, defensiveness, and general disillusion are captured in a way that left me crying bittersweet tears through the entire first chapter. I am beyond grateful for a new connectedness through mutual understanding and shared experience.....and for the valiant author who has shared his story with amazing grace and humility.

Lots of good info in this book
Anyone who thinks they may be getting dementia/Alzheimer’s or even just mild cognitive decline, this book helps understand what may be happening, and what they can do about it. Dr. Dale Bredesen has a protocol he calls ReCode, (reversing cognitive decline) and Mr. Waters explains how this protocol helped him regain his life back again. He explains things in an easy manner to follow, and tells about his success following it. I’d recommend reading the book if you or a loved one is experiencing mild cognitive decline. You can’t wait too long, or it may be too late. The sooner the better to act on it.

Very informative book
If you have any thoughts that you might have dementia, or have been told you may be getting it, you will want to read this book, a guide through which you may find some real hope. It's the story of a man who was floundering with memory loss and who sought help from a world renown doctor doing research in the field of dementia. Mr. McNear explains how and why a special protocol of diet and exercise and other factors can help regain memory in some people and get you on the road to recovery. You will learn of his personal story, as well as those of others, and you can decide if you want to try what has worked for him and others. It's very convincing. This book is easy to read. They have been kind enough to use a bit larger print, and I certainly appreciated that. If you need help, it might be right here. This is a very well-written book. I highly recommend it to you. Five stars.

A Must Read!
Wow! What a beautiful ray of hope this man presents in his battle with this Pandora Box of Horrors this disease represents. Like some reviewers said, the book does not give clear-cut steps to prevent the disease but it gives you HOPE!! And then it does give you resources and places to go for those steps you need. I think the book was an important and hope-filled introduction to that path toward the steps out of Alzheimer's grip. An important first read in your search for.that path. My many thanks to the author for sharing such a personal battle. Well worth the money.

Another ALZsurvivor - The numbers are growing!
Francis McNear is living proof as an ALZsurvivor thanks to The Bredesen Protocol. His story shows the importance of diet and lifestyle changes which are part of the Protocol and necessary for reversing Alzheimer’s or dementia. In his book, “Defeating Dementia,” he shares the details of how Alzheimer’s altered his life and livelihood. Francis is truly an inspiration, and his first hand account will be so helpful for others facing this horrible disease, whether they are victims or caregivers. This is a great resource and a must read book for those dealing with dementia or ALZ.We are no longer looking for the first survivor. Hundreds of people have halted and reversed their cognitive decline using The Bredesen Protocol. See how it’s possible to be an ALZsurvivor, like Francis!

Hope!
Francis has written a book of hope! Hope that there is reversal of illnesses of Dementia & Alzheimers. This is his testimonial that the program he has chosen with guidance has been working. I could have just read Dr. Bredesen's book, who is continually developing his reversal program for these fatal diseases but would have missed out in the first hand knowing that the program actually works.
