Update: Oct. 2015 - I have been using this mat for several months now. I still can't get over the reviews talking about the smell. I'm kind of wondering if they were shipped from different vendors? Maybe stored in some smelly area? Anyway, the mat is great! Absolutely the favorite thing I bought for my Coffee/Wet Bar! When it needs cleaning (more than the quick rinse) I set it on the counter with the edge on my sink and pour hot water onto it. It loosens the sticky stuff. I then lift up the away end and let it pour into the sink. Easy as pie. I won't be without one again!I ordered this from Amazon/Utensil Pro in April, 2015 and mine has no odor at all! It is simply perfect! This is for my new beverage bar and all drinks from coffee to cocktails will be made on this mat (rather than on the granite). Our home is still being built but I KNOW this is going to be exactly what I wanted!Update - We're in! This thing is perfect and everyone who see's my coffee/wet bar is intrigued by this bar mat. I don't think they realized you could own something like this in a private setting. It is perfect! Catches all the spills, just like I'd hoped it would.

I love this spill mat. It definitely is professional grade, and it's definitely nice and hefty, I wish it was as wide as my bar rail runner to maintain visual consistency, but as the song goes: You can't always get all that you want . . . Five stars all around. There is one caveat, though. . . the smell. When this mat first came out of the bag, it smelled like a hobo that had tried to sexually molest a bicycle inner tube. . . I know! :/ :( Gross, but hey, for eight bucks, this is a great product.Why din't I take off any stars on account of its smell, you ask?Well, I don't think I would have washed this thing before use if it hadn't smelled like it had designs to put my existence in peril, I wouldn't for one split second have thought to wash this magnificent thing if it didn't smell like it wanted to hurt me.A couple of dishwasher cycles later (yes, it's dishwasher safe) the smell is gone, and my bar surfaces are clean and tidy.BUY IT, It's definitely worth not having to wipe sticky slop off your marble bar counters when you can just pick this thing up and throw it in the dishwasher.

This is my third purchase of this item. In hindsight, I should've just ordered the 4-pack, but I didn't realize how handy these things would be. The first one serves as a drying mat for glasses and other odds and ends that I handwash. The second one I got serves as a splash and drip catch at our coffee/tea counter. This third one is now under the pets' food and water dishes. These things are dandy! Basically put them anywhere you want to contain food or liquid mess. They look nice, clean easily, and hold a surprising amount of liquid.None of the ones I've gotten have had a strong smell. One had a faint "new tire rubber" kind of smell at first and the other two had no real smell at all. I was concerned that they might leave black skidmarks on the counters or floor, but they haven't. I haven't had any problems with mildew in or under them. I do clean them (quick rinse with sink spray nozzle) every couple of weeks or so and I always make sure the bottom is dry before laying it back down. (And make sure the surface you lay it on is clean and dry as well.) I think they'll last close to forever. When and if they wear out, I'll come back and update.For how sturdy, stylish, and useful they are, the price is awesome. Highly recommended!

Purchased two of these bar mats for the growler station at the beer store I work at and they're great! We had initially been using towels to sit the filled growlers on to dry, but not only did that not look very professional, the towels would be soaked after a busy day. These bar mats look excellent and do a wonderful job of catching any excess water off the growlers without making a big mess on the counter.These are quite heavy duty, they've got a nice feel to them and stay in place very well. When we close at night, we hang them over the sink to dry and they always go back to flat when we lay them down on the counter in the morning.The only issue, and it's been mentioned many times, is the smell. When you first open the package, the smell is quite intense. I soaked them in a vinegar solution overnight and washed well with warm soapy water and that knocked down the smell quite a bit, but it does remain. The smell also diminishes with time, now we can only smell it if we put our nose right up to the mats.I'd give 'em 4.5 stars, knocking .5 off for the odor, but it's not enough to drop it a whole star since it can be managed with some proper initial care.

I'm using this as a glasses/dish drying rack and it's been working out wonderfully. It's great for items,such as pots, that don't easily fit into a conventional drying rack, as well as delicate items such as glassware.It's a very simple product -- basically a rectangle of rubber that has a ridge around the edge to hold in water. The surface has "fingers" to allow for airflow under the item being dried. The build quality is very good -- it's thick and heavy, and stays very well planted on the counter top.Some reviews mentioned a smell when it was new, but mine came odor-free. There was a very slight hint of a rubber smell if I held the mat to my nose, but even that slight smell went away with a quick wash with dish soap.Works well, easy to use/clean, well-made and inexpensive. A winner on all counts.
