works really well
This is easy to use and clean. It makes the perfect size of julienne carrots for Asian spring rolls.

A very good julienne peeler, the best I've tried...
I've tried a multiple julienne peelers over the past year. I like longish carrot strips that have a little muscle to them for dishes like cole slaw and others. I like the crunch and burst of flavor that thin peels don't get you. I've tried peelers designed like this. I've tried mandolines. I've been underwhelmed by most. I could write a report on all of the tests I've run. This tool is sharp. The handle is sturdy. The protect cap is exactly that โ a cap. You take it off and place it out of the way when you use the tool. Too many other similar tools leave the cap attached to the tool as protection for your fingers, but they rarely offer that protection. They do manage to distract and get in the way. For better protection, pick up a kitchen-grade cut resistant glove. This tool gets right down to cutting long strips of carrots and other veggies. I use a corn cob holder (Oxo-brand) to pin the distal end of the veggie down on the cutting board the use this tool to pull lengthwise along the other end. When using this technique it is useful to leave an inch or so of excess for the veggie on the pinned end. You get nice clean cuts with this peeler. I'm not surprised. I always have good luck with Kuhn Rikon tools. They are well-engineered and well-built. In good product design, it is key to be both. This tool easily makes the grade. My only wish is this: it would be nice to have Kuhn-Rikon make a side-swipe version of this tool as opposed to an inline-pull tool. I've seen other designs like this, but have not tried them. The side swipe method appears to me it might be even easier yet and maybe a little safer.

The only one that works
A couple of weeks ago I stumbled over suggestions on a handheld julienne slicer/peeler combo hand tool and decided to check it out in more detail. Then I read all the glorious reviews. One thing stuck out immediately: most were NOT labeled "amazon.com verified purchase", and those were all the 5-star ratings. The 1-star ratings were the "verified purchase"... There were several other similar slicer/peeler combination tools by other manufacturers I had never heard of, and all had the same obscure ratings. All these tools shared two problems: none came with a blade guard for safe storage. And none had any good REAL ratings. Enter the Kuhn Ricon, a German high quality company I trust. They manufacture this little gem, and I jumped on it. I already own their peeler which, after years of fairly heavy use, is still as sharp as the day I bought it. So this was a perfect complement. And it works. Beautiful strips of dainty julienne, it makes quick work of carrots and potatoes without struggling. No clogging, super easy cleanup. Bottom line: look at the ratings and ignore those that are not verified. Then do your homework and buy a quality tool. Shame on all who artificially inflate junk items because they got it free or at a bargain price. It is not fair to the public to give false testimony. As a Vine Voice, I owe it to others to be honest and unbiased. It doesn't matter how I came upon an item, honesty needs to prevail.

Angel Hair!
Because I really love "zoodles" (and carrot, parsnip, butternut squash, and sweet potato noodles), I ordered ALL the highly rated julienne peelers/slicers on Amazon to compare. The Paderno World Cuisine Tri-Blade Vegetable Slicer Paderno World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable failed and was returned immediately. It mangled the zucchini, didn't make noodles but clunky, misshapen strings, and wobbled all over the place. The suction cup feet were a joke. The carrot I tried never did get sliced into julienne strips but stayed in thick bands. (Yes, I had the julienne blade in!) And after slicing, the teeth were bent in all directions! I can only figure that the one a reviewer bought & raved over 3 years ago was made by a different supplier. This sort of thing happens all the time... companies change suppliers for one reason or another and the quality goes down. Possibly the "good" recent reviews are for machines which were made 3 years ago and just now found in an attic??? I also tested the Gefu Spirelli Spiral Cutter GEFU Spirelli Spiral Cutter . It was about as disapointing as the Paderno and was returned right away. Read some of the 1 or 2 star reviews to understand why it was bad. Really never worked at all! Very gimmick-y. Makes me wonder if anyone actually tests these things before manufacturing them! A few months ago, I purchased an OXO julienne peeler OXO Good Grips Julienne Peeler and enjoyed using it for about 4 meals when I noticed the blades (teeth) which score the food before being sliced were all bent at different angles! The blade didn't seem all that sharp and dragging it over a carrot or parsnip was sort of difficult. However it had the widest teeth at 3.7mm making nice fat zoodles. Next I compared the Kuhn Rikon Kuhn Rikon Julienne Peeler with Blade Protector, Stainless Steel Handle and the MIU France MIU France Stainless Steel Swiss Peeler, Julienne Blade peelers. They both worked very well for hand-held tools. (Remember to anchor the base of the veggie, as one other reviewer noted, with a carving or large fork so you don't nick the fingers holding the veggie.) The MIU worked great, easy to use, but a relatively short handle which I found harder to hold on to. Comes with no protective cover for the blade, but I made one out of 3" of clear plastic 1/2" diameter tubing slit all along the long side. The teeth are 3.3mm apart which makes a thin spaghetti-type noodle, but thicker than angel-hair. The Kuhn Rikon has a nice long handle which I liked, and a cover for the VERY sharp blade. The teeth were only 2.2mm apart which makes a sort of angel-hair noodles rather than a spaghetti-type. Nice for root veggies like carrots and parsnips, and sweet potatoes; they cook quicker. I hope this helps anyone wading through the julienne peeler swamp!

Very nice tool!
This is a very handy tool that I know I will use often, not one of those that will sit in the bottom of the drawer. It is very easy to use and clean. My only comment is that while it is called a Julienne peeler, what it produces are very fine shreds, finer than what I would call julienne. But it made quick work of a couple of carrots for salad and produced a size and texture that were much better to my taste than carrot slices and it's a whiz for cole slaw. I've only had it for a short while, but it seems to be very sturdy and I can imagine it holding up well over time. Recommended.

Great product but cap arrived broken
It's sturdy and easy to use, so well worth the extra price. I use it mostly to make thin long strips of carrots and this cutter works great. It's not extremely easy to clean, but that has to do with the nature of peelers itself, not with this particular product. I'm writing this review to note that whereas I'm happy with the product, it was delivered with the plastic cap broken. It's way too much of a hassle to return it, particularly with the stay-at-home orders and besides I don't think I need the cap, so I decided to just use it. Hope Amazon will take more care with the packaging (e.g. use a small box instead of the plastic bag that was used to deliver mine) so that it won't arrive at anyone else's house broken.

Product great, some older issues on marking etc
I want to update review as I heard back from manufacturer within 24 hours. The product is all stainless steel. The packaging I have is old and was redone for all the reasons I mentioned. It was also changed to say Swiss design, as no Kuhn Rikon products are actually made in Switzerland per their managing director. They provide resellers with copy, but can't control what they write. So, I now raised my review from 4 to 5 AND want to say this is a very responsive and customer friendly manufacturer. (Of course I don't know if all their design work is actually done in Switzerland, but hey...) below is original review: Ok, so this product package & peeler marked: Kuhn Rikon Switzerland on front & reverse. Peeler is marked Kuhn Rikon Switzherland with no actual country of origin marks. The packaging does say Made in China, BUT ONLY ON THE BACK and in a SMALLER FONT than Switzerland. This is not considered legal marking per 19CRF134.46. Why? Because it misleads the consumer - including this one - about the true country of origin. If Name includes country/ or US city other than country of origin, the country of origin name must be in close proximity (front and back since this has Switzerland front and back) and be AT LEAST in the same size font. I will also be sending this information to the manufacturer. I am not fond of misleading advertising or marking...that aside, this is the best version for the price I've found, though I have used it only once. This does look stainless, but is not marked as such. Some Amazon sellers say it is, some are silent on subject some say brushed metal. The manufacturer states the blade is stainless steel and say nothing about the peeler itself - by which I infer it is not stainless. I did however already write to the manufacturer and asked this question as well. Clearly there is some lack of clarity here at a minimum - by manufacturer and especially by some U.S. resellers. Would I buy it again. Yes.

More expensive than original price
100 % original product. Strong stainless steel body, sharp blades and screws. Looks robust enough to last longer than the plastic ones. Time will be the best judge of its durability. As for price, its more than double of its original market price, as the product is being shipped directly from overseas; on account of absence of a local seller who imports goods beforehand on wholesale basis, and then affords to sell such imported products at prices closer to their original market prices.

Beautiful julienned strips
Beautiful julienned strips of carrots easily achieved with this brilliant tool. I have not tried it on turnip which is round, Iโm not sure if it will be as easy or safe to use on vegetables that are not longish. To thoroughly wash the blade section, I used a clean brush to scrub, to prevent cutting myself.
