I have recently tried several other brands of St. John's Wort and must say that this brand by Solaray is amazing and it makes me feel so much better. If you are suffering from depression or know someone that suffers from mild to moderate depression this is a great product. I also take this product in conjunction with Gabba from Whole Foods and Holy Basil both for anxiety as well. I am going to share something that will be brutally honest, but if it means helping another soul ..I am okay with being frank. Okay, here it goes I was having major gastro issues again and off work for three months, the rehab property did not sell and I had to move into the home in an area that was distressed (the block was great, the block west was great and east was great), but the area was similar to my experience in public housing over 25 years ago, needless to say I was depressed , emotional and in tears everyday.. truthfully, I felt hopeless. I received a call from a colleague who had called to check in and I shared a small portion of my then challenge and she recommended St. John's Wort; I ordered the product immediately and within a day my mood was elevated and I was back to feeling optimistic and hopeful about my situation. I take St. John's Wort daily and I am grateful to my colleague who is 25 years old and wheel chair bound from a sudden spinal affliction, but is the most positive person I know...she credits turning her mood around after paralysis to St. John's Wort also. BTW she is beating all the odds because of her will and determination.. it is difficult to stay mentally, physically and emotionally healthy when depressed. I apologize for the length, but I hope this review helps someone who is feeling down and out!

When this finally arrived, I was in pretty bad shape. Like, considering going to the hospital any second. I have PMDD and am hit with crippling depression about once a month, and my insurance won't cover birth control pills to regulate my hormones. So I figured I'd try this instead. The worst side effect is extreme sensitivity to sunlight? So I become a vampire, big deal. A few days ago, I took one capsule (the full dose is two, but I'm small) and it began to help immediately, although I only realized that in retrospect. I thought it was supposed to take weeks/months to start working, but I've been taking it for 4 days and it definitely works. Daily tasks are now No Big Deal, and I don't want to die every second! My life has begun anew!However, I chose to take one capsule in the morning and one at night (to equal one full dose per day), and the times I've remembered to take it at night, I feel weird and awful within minutes. My heart races and I feel extremely anxious and agitated in a weirdly ecstatic way. I'm not sure if it's mania, which would mean I have bipolar disorder (I am not diagnosed with this and didn't think the warning about manic episodes applied to me), or serotonin syndrome, which is apparently life-threatening. I didn't even know you could get this syndrome from St. John's Wort, like you can with prescription drugs! I'm disappointed, since I've already had to deal with sertraline (Zoloft) and thought I didn't have to deal with anything that serious by taking this supplement. That was the whole appeal, guys...Whether the benefits of St. John's Wort will outweigh the side effects for me remains to be seen. For the time being, I'd highly recommend it to anybody unable to obtain a prescription so long as you have no other known health issues, read skeptic accounts of its negative effects, and keep a close eye on your body! It's worth it to get your life back in order. And it's different for everybody, so if you choose to take it, I hope it's as potent for you as it was for me! Or...slightly less so!

Good product for reasonable

This stuff worked for my depression. Do NOT take with pharmaceuticals for depression as this is meant to be taken on its own. It gave me more energy but did not help with anxiety, it might have exacerbated it to an extent. Stay clear of caffeine as this might have been the culprit ( for me it was, anyway). I prefer this method to managing my depression and plan on using this as needed.

Saved myself a trip to the drugstore and saved money too. Excellent quality St. John's Wort, this is a repeat purchase that I would recommend to anyone. Worked perfectly, 5 STARS

My review has nothing to do with Solaray as a brand and its particular product of St. John's Wort. It is instead about St. John's wort itself.My personal experience is that it does not work for me at all. It actually made my symptoms worse. Depression is a symptom that could have a myriad of causes. For people with less than optimal liver functioning, please be careful about St. John's wort. Internet research shows that it can be harsh on the liver. For me, a delicate liver is actually one cause of depression. Incidentally, Sam-e works very well for me, which seems to provide something essential that I don't generate enough on my own.

I have been taking St. Johns Wort since 1999. I recently switched brands to this one because it is organic and you only have to take two a day. I have never ever had any side effects and I am very chemically sensitive, that is why I will not take prescription drugs unless I have to. I take one in the morning and one at lunch. I can even take another at night if I feel the need but I do not need to normally. Highly recommend.

took for 4-5 weeks and seemed to help with overall well-being, but made my period late (i’m NEVER late), and upon research found out that sjw can stop a woman’s period. discontinued use and started my period a few days later. being a 33yo without children, my reproductive health is too important and have since found that there are many other supplements (without an ssri effect) that work better for helping with the anxieties/depression associated with complex ptsd.i highly recommend consulting with a functional medicine doctor for natural supplementation.
