Bellydance Superstars Live in Paris at the Folies Bergere

I was pleased with the diversity of the dancers and styles. Ansuya is an exhilarating fountain of energy. Rachel Brice is a brilliantly skilled yogi. Amar Gamal and Sonia look like bellydancing supermodels. Slender Kaeshi is exquisite, and so feminine. Ample Dondi is juicy, and so feminine. Glamorously mysterious Sharon Kihara blew me away with uniquely beautiful gentle cascading of her belly... It was like surrealistic waterfalls. Adore turned out to be not only a great dancer, but also a proficient gymnast. However, I think she incorporated too many saltos. I was impressed with the endless spinning and double-veiling of Petite Jamilla, but I was partially turned off by that semi-rap music. Jillina didn't appeal to me. I think she is even colder and dryer here than on her instructional videos. There are other dancers in the show, but it is hard to see what they are doing, since they only participate in group performances, and usually in the back.I very much enjoyed nearly every solo. I admired the Bellyqueen duet, probably my favorite number. However, some of the group performances were not very interesting. And I felt that "Marilyn Monroe" was such a stretch.I think the second round of dancers' introduction at the end (on the stairs) was needless. The picture quality does get horrible sometimes, but it doesn't happen too often.Even with its imperfections, this is the best performance video I've seen so far.

Though not all of the dances or parts of the show were to my taste, I really love this DVD & rated it a 5. I rented it to preview and then kept the rental until I could get my own copy. My favorites were the tribal numbers, the Rachel Brice solo, and the Indian piece that everyone participated in. I also liked the drum solos quite a bit. I did not care for the Dondi/Marilyn number at all, but that was the only part I did not like. I recommend this for anyone that likes to watch great bellydance! There is also some great inspiration for costuming if you are into that (which I am)

I feel honored to have had a chance to see the wonderful performances on this video. Before this video, I had no idea there were so many different styles of this art form! Amazing performances and I appreciated the DVD menu so I could view my favorites over and over. I am now a HUGE fan of all of the performers, but especially of Rachel Brice and Ansuya. There is true variety that includes tribal, classic, acrobatic, humorous, Bollywood styles with music, sets and costumes that complement. I am going to play this DVD at my next party to educate friends on the variety in bellydance.

There are two kinds of bellydance. First, there is bellydance for the dancers, where local dance troupes give unfailing encouragement to all dancers, no matter how they look or dance. While this may have its purpose, it is not always so good to watch. Bellydance Superstars is a professional show. Only the most beautiful and polished performers make the cut for this one. If you want to see truly great belly dancers put their souls into a live show, Watch This!

I think this show was great.I have watched it several times and I never get bored with it.The costumes are beautiful,the dancing is wonderful.I enjoyed this better than the I.M.E.D. taped shows that I have.It was definitely worth the money.I highly recommend it,for pure enjoyment,if you like to watch belly dancers perform.

Petit Jamal's performance was wonderful!!! She whirls using two veils to some kickA$$ music. There is a lot more tribal than the other BDSS DVD, however, I like the other DVD much better. RB is awesome, as is Ansuya. But Ansuya's performance was very similar to ones I have seen her do in other performances.I would recommend due to the low cost, and based on PJ's performance alone.

I love watching the dancers, they are so regal and elegant. I wish I could dance 1/4th as good as they do! I have most of the Superstars dvds and they are all great.Thank-you.

Although I am mainly interested in dancing myself at my local dance school and taking part in demonstrations at local school fetes and the like, I felt I would like to sit and really immerse myself in some professional performances. Although most of the training DVD's I have feature one or two short dances by the instructor, this Superstars DVD is just a wiggly, glittery, glamfest! The dancers showcase different bellydance styles, there are solo and group performances and there is a great rapport between the drummer and the dancers.Like many reviewers, I wasn't quite sure what to make of Dondi's Marilyn, but I think if you take it at face value - a bit of light-hearted comedy (and Dondi can certainly do comedy to great effect) - it doesn't grate too much! Glad it's just the one number though.Also like many reviewers, I saw exactly what people meant when they reckoned that the dancers looked very uncomfortable being handed down the staircase and introduced. I still can't make up my mind whether Rachel Brice fell deliberately or not but am assuming that must be the case, otherwise why would you leave it in?!Overall, a very good DVD. Make sure the other half is tinkering with something in the garage, break out some choccies and enjoy!!

I have lots of raks sharki DVDs from all around the world but this is my absolute favourite. LOVE it, something for everyone -Ansuya is her usual gorgeous, fabulas self and petite jamila and Adore show their individuality to perfection. REALLY GOOD MUSIC and a GREAT DRUMMER Very good camera work. Such a good atmosphere with being live - I just want to join in and clap myself ! The only things I could criticise is the Marilyn sketch which was not funny and irritating but I just always skip that track. After having introduced all the women in the finale I felt it was unnecessary to show them being escorted down the stairs, but it is the last track and again you can skip over it. Definitely recommend it.

I loved this DVD. Previous bellydance DVD's that I have purchased, have either been instructional or studio performances done specifically for video. This DVD however is a live performance at its very best and you can feel that extra energy that live performance requires radiating from the screen. I liked the variety of dance styles and costumes from traditional, tribal, contemporary and even Hawaiian and the mix of solo and group performances. The Marilyn scene may not be to everyone's taste, but remembering that this is a live show where the audience quite likely exists of enthusiastic belly dancers and less enthusiastic partners, I thought it added a nice break.An inspiring DVD for dance teachers, planning their next show or concert with ideas on lighting, group numbers, stage entry and exit etc.. A truly excellent DVD. I also bought the Bellydance Superstars DVD at the same time which was a waste as it covers most of the performances in this show but with over smoky effects an shoddy camera work.

This DVD includes solo presentations and group work. As such it is much more varied, interesting and accessable than the other 2 DVDs released by this show.I would recommend buying this one as the starting point and then considering if the other DVDs consisting of just solos will be of interest or not.

i especially love this and have watched it over and over again. great music as well. makes me feel so happy watching this
