Good for beginners
This book covers many of the important beginning lessons for the new bridge player. It is a bit confusing at first, but there are many opportunities in the pages to view hands and make the lesson apply to them. The lesson is also a bit more understandable once you sit at a bridge table, start to play actual hands with other beginners, and then return to review the lesson in the book. You have to be serious about learning bridge to have this book be helpful.

This is a good introduction to 2 over 1 Bridge. The lessons present a logical learning order. Each lesson covers just one concept, and it is possible to master each concept as you read through the lessons. They build on each other, so you accumulate the knowledge needed to begin playing using the 2 over 1 method.

A Great Intro to 2 over 1
This book is nicely laid out, and the paper quality is above average. The font and spacing make the book exceptionally easy to read. The author invested a lot of thought and time in writing this book. I could not be more pleased.

This writer has the somewhat rare ability to take a complicated subject and make it very easy to understand. I highly recommend this book!

Best current book that combines Beginning Bridge with 2/1 Bidding
At the moment, this is the best bridge book to teach Beginning Bridge. Jim teaches the modern 2/1 rather than older systems such as Standard American, Goren, Culberson, The Official System, or Crane. I have used some of Jim's chapters while teaching bridge lessons. I agree with others that the Instructor's CD is very beneficial when making class handouts. My understanding from Jim is that a 2nd Printing takes care of most of my nitpicks, so buyers who want the corrected edition should seek books from the 2nd Printing.
