This is one of the " Great Books" of my lifetime.
This book was read to me as a child ( I am almost 76 now), and I read it to my children, and just bought for a grand nephew. Beautiful artwork, teaches organization, resourcefulness, and the joy that can come from being on the sea, and also the joy of traveling to parts unknown. Certainly contributed to my sense of adventure and wanderlust. Loved it then, and I still love it today!

For my dog
Who doesn’t love the Sailor Dog. I got this book because the dog looks exactly like my dog so that didn’t hurt. This is a great book for kids and adults alike.

love this book
Now many baby shower invites say "bring a book instead of a card". Get this book. It's great, stood the test of time and less than $5. I ordered 7 and am not prepared for awhile.

Wonderful Story
THE BEST ILLUSTRATIONS. This is a simple story about a dog who knows what he wants and loves - a like on the sea.

Family favorite for 70 years!
My brothers and I got this for Christmas in 1953. We wore out that first copy and I’ve been gifting this to all the kids I know, including my daughter and nieces, nephews, etc. ever since. It’s a timeless story with memorable illustrations. I always wanted to live on a chubby little boat like Scupper’s. I now have a dog who looks exactly like him!

The Little Sailor Dog Who Could!
This Little Golden Book was first published in 1953 and introduced me to two loves of my life: the art of Garth Williams and little bitty houses made by amateurs. When I wanted to remodel my own house I feared that it would be beyond my capabilities until my dad pointed out that everything is made up of individual pieces - from a simple pair of pliers to the space shuttle. One piece at a time. Of course, it's handy if someone can hold up the other end of a board while you knock in a nail at your end, but it's still just one board at a time, one nail at a time. The Sailor Dog did just that. He used of what he found and made a shelter for himself - all by himself. The lesson I learned as a child was this: if he can do it, I can probably do it, too.

Received in excellent condition.
Thank you. The book was in excellent condition. The big box for the small book, was unnecessary though..

Wonderful story
Our children (aged 4 and 2) loved this story. Like all classic children's books, has an edge of mystery/weirdness which makes it interesting for adults, too.
