Perfect for recording on the go!
I use this as a portable podcast studio and to record some music for fun. It's easy to use, especially if you are already familiar with audio engineering, mixing, and mastering. One could easily produce an entire song in one sitting without having to have a bunch of expensive studio equipment on hand.I've found a few cons with this product (some of them might be due to my own lack of knowledge):-While it does offer four tracks, as far as I can tell you can't record four different things simultaneously since it only has two inputs. You'd have to record two tracks, and then record two more tracks over those. Not really an issue for music, but for my purposes it limits me to two microphones.-The onboard mics can be very sensitive, but they also have a high/medium/low setting that can be easily adjusted.-When using an XLR to 1/4" cable for a microphone, you get a little extra noise that has to be cleaned up in an external editing program.-Unfortunately this can't double as a USB audio interface as it will only transfer data when plugged into a computer via USB.

The appropriate decision to have it.
As an amateur ,the sound of records I recorded is very good after using for a while, and functions of inputs setting give me the choices of sound for recordings.it is good overall, and I like it.More applicable in functions I probably use with time, . and I know they are good. Thanks

Works well
It works well and takes very little reading to learn to operate. I have little previous recording experience and have put together several tracks now in the few months owned. Good unit.

Great recorder for the price!
This is a great recorder! You can upload your recordings to your computer easily and it’s fast. You can then make a CD because it uploads a WAV file of your recording. Great price too. It doesn’t have any effects but that was ok with me. If you want effects I would suggest getting something else.

Hard to Evaluete, but can say, not something for beginners/casual use
Not a sound engineer, and know very little about the subject. But bought this to experiment and learn. I did get it basically working, but it's really, really clunky as far as interface, etc. (tiny confusing screen), ten buttons to push it seems, then wait, then remove card, insert into you PC etc. There is a lot of memorizing buttons and sequences, and it's far from intuitive.Sooo much easier, more direct and intuitive, and far more capabilities just using free DAW like Audacity. Again, that's from a beginner perspective. There certainly must (?) be instances in which you need this *instead of* recording directly to your PC. (?) Somewhere between Pro and Casual? Not sure, but as a non sound engineer, I never use this

User Friendly
I must say as soon as I got it I hooked it right up and used it. It was very easy to maneuver through everything. Tascam has definitely incorporated the technology into something wonderful.
