A great way of introducing new words and concepts to younger readers
This is a really intersting take on a dictionary for younger kids. The cartoon illustration and bright colours is immediately engaging. The pictures do a great job of putting the words into context. The words are thematically grouped so they all sit well together and (mostly) make sense as collections. Each collection (usually spanning 2 pages) tends to have a main word and then an array of associated words. This makes book much more readable than a traditional dictionary (trust me, I read the dictionary when I was younger). Our six-year old really enjoyed getting this as a christmas present. It lasted about a week of occassional reading before he'd flicked through enough pages to realise that he knew most of the words and lost interest. That's not to say he didn't learn anything - he picked up some really good words and reinforced his spelling of words he already knew.A good example of where he's picked something up is "regret". This was a new word / concept and he's all over it now... "I regret that we didn't get to go to McDonalds for lunch this weekend". I think I've just got to work on his application... "I regret trying to guilt trip my parents into a trip to McDonalds" might be more appropriate... :-DOverall, this book is a great way to expand the vocabulary of younger kids. I'd put the age range between 5-8 years, although it's going to vary from child to child depending where they're at with their reading etc.

Fun and educational
My 5-year old loves it. He wants to read this every day. It's fun and educational, especially that he can learn by watching a short video by scanning the code on the picture.

Not just for children
I was curious when l read about this book. I love it for myself and since my grandson is only 2I will keep it for a while and enjoy it. The pictures or illustrations really bring the words to life.Would recommend this to all.

Love it!
My daughter has recently turned four and absolutely loves this book, we make up little stories about each page and it’s been fantastic in introducing her to new vocab that we wouldn’t necessarily always use in day-to-day life. Great job!

Words too basic
I think the majority of the words seem a bit basic even for a four/ five year old. There are some new words that my child may pick up but in amongst words like shark, sand, ocean, zip wire, window bed sleep, saucepan, lid, under around. Wish I had bought the word a day flip chart now as that may be more challenging/useful.
