General Tools 722 Metric and English Vernier Caliper
Eh. It's alright. Not the best tool I've ever laid hands on but not the worst either. As soon as I took the calipers out of the packaging I knew it was made in India. Gritty feel while sliding the calipers open and closed with the thumbwheel. The resistance screw seems to only serve to lock and unlock the slide. There is no variation in resistance as far as I can tell. Laser edged marks? Maybe. But certainly very sloppy laser edged graduations. A little tough to read but maybe I just need to update my eyeglass prescription. For $10 it's accurate enough to the millimeter. I ordered some plastic ones for $7 for a set of three. They are easier to read and just as accurate with a much better Vernier scale. I'll return this one. I'll never reach for it.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072PQSLP9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Good for the price
PLUS:(1) Low price ($8 Sept. 2019)(2) Looks almost indestructible (good job, I always drop my tools)(3) Made in USA (New Jersey)MINUS:(1) It sticks a little bit (what do you expect for $8?)(2) It has that California warning label for a toxic substance. Not sure what's going on with that, as it is just a chunk of metal. Maybe lead or cadmium? Anyway, I will use about once a year, and probably with gloves on, so hopefully no big deal.

Indents hard to read
The measurement marks on this tool are not painted and so they are hard for me to read. It works fine otherwise and I use it regularly at my lathe for the purchase it was intended, but it is hard to read. Otherwise it is just fine. It is what it is.

Got what I paid for (of maybe a bit less)
Kind of textbook case for "you get what you pay for" - product itself is almost in line with the price, not a lot of quality for what would be supposed to be a precision instrument, but heck, I didn't say that it set me back a fortune either. Did not expect a "Mitu-caliber" quality but very difficult to read with a read window that does not inspire much trust and a sliding lock screw that slips when tightening, and then does not lock in place fully to the measurement. That becomes more obvious given the poor quality of the assembly-line finish. Did not return it simply because I can leave it in the garage, use it for non-critical measurements every now and then and not worry about it too much if left around without any maintenance. Later on, for just a few buck more, I got a digital one from another generic vendor and I now use that caliper with more trust for measurements around the house (like cable diameters, interior pipe gauges, bolt sizes or thread depths and the like.)Bottom line: two stars because it is usable under some circumstances, but not that easy to read, not that well made and, given the observed quality, not that cheap either for what you get.

Works well.. not as precise a measurement as a digital version will give you
This tool is exactly as described and does what it's intended to do.. my only complaint (which is somewhat unfair) is that it's not exactly a high precision instrument. When compared with a digital vernier caliper (which can be had for only a small price difference more usually) it won't give you precise down to the 1/10 of a milimeter measurement. I work in aviation so this is a bit of an inconvenience.. but it's not necessarily this tools fault.

Every Household Needs This Tool
My dad, born in 1901, left me this tool or its predecessor, the 721. I don't know how long ago he got it, but he showed me how to use it many, many years ago when I was a youngster. It has been wonderful any time I wanted a small reasonably precise measurement around the house, so you can imagine how badly I felt when I dismantled it for cleaning and lost a part! Who could imagine the product is still available!! It is cleverly built to measure hard to reach places, the depths and insides of openings as well as outside dimensions. I cannot imagine a household without one, and I'm so glad Amazon carries it.

Quick and simple to use for sizing up things like bolts and nuts and measurements in odd places
Quick and simple to use for sizing up things like bolts and nuts and measurements in odd places. It seems a little inaccurate when you are down to using the vernier scale, but I also have digital version for precise measurements. I had to fiddle with the spring tension at first to get it to slide right and to get the grease off of it.

best quality for the money
i was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this because i wanted a steel one and was concerned about ending up w/ a cheapo like seems to happen more than it should these days,,,(unless you spend a lot of time reading reviews?). Seems to be a solid buy and the best qualtiy for the money. Yeah!

Buen vernier
Buena calidad y acabados, no es tan preciso como los que utilice en la universidad pero para calibrador casero si funciona.

General Tools Caliper
This caliper is of very low quality and poorly made. I would not recommend it.

Me gustó, solo que algunos acabados no están muy buenos, pero en general por el precio me ha funcionado muy bien.
