The best thing about this kettle is how ridiculously fast it boils water. I knew an electric kettle would be faster than heating water on the stove, but I was still surprised by just how quickly this gets the job done. For tea, coffee, hot chocolate, or anything else that needs boiling water, it’s incredibly convenient. The 1.7-liter capacity is a good size because I can heat enough for several cups at once, but the kettle doesn’t feel enormous sitting on the counter. I also like the glass carafe because you can immediately see how much water is in it instead of having to rely entirely on a little indicator window. Using it couldn’t be much simpler. Fill it, put it on the base, turn it on, and it shuts itself off when the water boils. The boil-dry protection is also reassuring because apparently I do not need one more household appliance depending entirely on me remembering to turn it off. It’s not fancy and doesn’t have a bunch of temperature settings or features I’d probably never use anyway. It just boils water, and it does that extremely quickly and reliably. For a basic electric kettle, this is exactly what I wanted.

This review is for Amazon Basics Electric Glass and Steel Hot Tea Water Kettle, 1.7-Liter, Black and Silver. I got this to replace a stainless steel Ascot electric kettle which worked wonderfully for about 3 years and before that an Ovente cordless glass kettle which also worked for 3 years. I know it was 3 years because I am diligent with recording all my purchases and they all seem to die by the 3 year mark. I’m not sure if this is planned obsolescence but this has been my personal experience. I thought about getting another Ascot again but it’s expensive and if I’m only going to get 3 years out of it, why spend any more than what I have to for an electric kettle? Don’t do what I did thinking a more expensive one will last any longer! I went with this one because my parents have it so I know it works and it works well for them. Why not go with something I know works? I like it a lot and it boils water pretty fast. I like electric kettles for the convenience of being able to boil water and walk away knowing it would turn off once ready. Gone are the days of waiting patiently for the whistling of the kettle so that I can shut off the stove! Who has time anymore? I only use filtered water to make my coffee and tea and I normally check the temperature of the water before I use it depending on whether I'm making tea or coffee. Some things that I've observed, and others have pointed out, is that the water boils at 7 minutes and 30 seconds for me with 1.7L (Max) of filtered Brita water (whether refrigerated or room temperature). Obviously, the less water, the quicker the kettle comes to a boil (3 minutes for 1.0L). The kettle will automatically shut off when it hits about 210-212°F (based on the 3-4 readings that I've taken). This is a little bit too hot for my coffee and tea so I usually wait a bit for it to cool down to between 195-205°F for coffee and between 160-180°F for my tea. There are kettles out there where one can set the desired temperatures, but for the price and quality of this kettle I think it's working out fine for me. I like the wide opening because it’s easy to fill and also easy to stick my hands inside to clean with a sponge. I couldn’t do this with my last kettle and that was so annoying! Pro Tip: In my experience, if the kettle doesn’t turn on or seems dead, descaling the pot will often restore it back to normal. This was the case with my Ascot where once I descaled it, it worked again for several more months. I had to do this 3-4 times during those 3 years before it died completely. Also, if it doesn’t turn on after cleaning, try spinning the kettle to different contact points on the base. This too was the case with my old kettles. I had to slowly spin the kettle on the base to get it to light up and run. Eventually this didn’t work either so here I am once again looking for a new kettle! Overall, I'm pleased with this Amazon Basics kettle. I like the size, quality, design, features, and boil speed. I would still recommend it and I give it a 5.0/5.0. - 06/15/2024.

I purchased 2 other brands of electric kettle on Amazon and had to return both due to faulty functioning. But the 3rd time was the charm: the Amazon Basics electric kettle does everything right. I've been using it every day for 2 months now and there have been no glitches. It heats fast, has a pretty blue light, and goes off automatically every time. And it was less expensive than the two I returned!

Watch my video .. but this so much better than boiling tea in a pot or a pan because we all know that we all forget that we’re boiling water in a pot and we’re in another room and all of a sudden we go out and it’s dry as a bone and we burned a pot or a pan. This is way way better I’ve been looking for tea kettles that whistle, and they are never loud enough between you and me I would burn the house down. I knew about electric kettles, but I still wasn’t too sure about him. I remember a very long time ago when I was babysitting for somebody who was from England so they fancy items every kind of product in their house. They had an electric tea kettle, and I thought it was the best thing to ice cream so I decided to investigate and I found this Amazon basic awesome kettle that works perfect !!!! I do not have to worry about my old man boyfriend burning the house down cause he already burned one of my brand new pots that he bought me for Christmas because he forgot about it cause he shut his door and he was watching the news station and completely forgot that he was boiling water or sometimes he comes from a long walk and put the pot of water on the stove and goes in the room and ends up falling asleep and forgot all about it and I forgot all about it and I am basically sitting right next to it watching TV and forgetting that I’m boiling water until I realize I’m boiling water cause it smells like I’m burning something. This awesome item automatically shuts off !!!!! watch my video. The black lever has to be pushed down when you plug it in and you push the black lever down and it starts to boil. It pops up when the water is done boiling and it’s an automatic shut off so if you are in your room, and have your door shut .. or u have loud kids and you’re doing something you completely forgot that you have the electric tea kettle on it automatically shuts off so it’s not gonna burn the house down and it has a special sensor so it doesn’t burn dry it’s a mechanism that’s built in and this is exactly what I need for me for my boyfriend and for anybody else that comes here you’re ninety yr old grandmother you’re mother who has Alzheimer’s burn still wants to do something this is the kettle to get other than that. It’s a little bit hot, but that’s normal. Keep it on the counter. Make sure nobody’s around it when it shuts off unplug it if you want to make it quicker get cool but it does get cool really quick once it automatically shuts off… It’s really a no-brainer but I’m gonna tell you something. This is the best thing next to ice cream if you always leave your pot running in a pan when you’re in another room or taking a shower or an argument with somebody and you forgot that you’re boiling water happens to all of us. Watch my video definitely worth the $20 and something cents that I spent on it Just remember when you want to reheat your water up again or put more water in you have to push the level down to make the blue light on so it starts to work that’s basically your turn on button and you can also flip it up if you don’t want to do the full boil, you can do a half boil pull it up push it up and it will stop automatically. You don’t have to wait for the full boil if you don’t want to. REMEMBER, YOU HAVE TO PUSH THAT LEVER DOWN TO START YOUR TEA TO GET BOILING. YOU’LL SEE THE BLUE LIGHT PLUG IT IN PUSH THE BUTTON DOWN. WAIT FOR THE BUTTON TO POP UP WHEN IT’S ALL DONE BOILING OR YOU CAN HALFWAY WHILE YOU’RE BOILING IT YOU CAN FLIP THE BUTTON UP SO THAT YOU CAN GET YOUR TEA WHENEVER YOU FEEL LIKE IT.

I already have a large electric Chefman kettle for my kitchen that I love and use every day. However, I wanted a small one for my bathroom. Our bathroom is relatively far away from the water heater and unless I want to wash my face in ice cold water, I need to run the water for several minutes. Now I turn the kettle on, put a little cold water in the sink and add hot water from the kettle to get the right temp. No more wasted water. It heats quickly and shuts itself off as soon as it gets to boiling temperature. Be careful, it takes very little boiling water to warm the cold water in the sink. The one feature my large kettle has is the actual temperature of the water from start to finish; a nice feature when heating water to 110° for bread yeast. Since I'm not making bread in the bathroom, no worries for this little kettle. This kettle is very basic but gets the job done. Would definitely recommend it for dorm rooms or RVs.

Love this! I drink tea every morning. It's attractive on the shelf, and my tea is ready fast. The pot is lightweight, easy to lift and grip. My favorite small appliance.

This is precisely what I wanted. An electric kettle that's small enough to not be a counter-hog and isn't made of plastic. I've been using it daily with no issues. Quick to heat, quiet, easy. Everything it's meant to be. The handle stays nice and cool- just be careful not to touch the glass or metal once heated, obviously.
