Awesome Knife.
FIRST IMPRESSION: This is one of the coolest budget knives that you can buy today. I started with the X9 responder, which is the larger version of this knife and I loved that one. I realized though that that was a very large knife. This is the perfect size for an EDC knife. It feels good and solid in the hand. The action on the knife is good, but not great. I need to flick the wrist with some force to get it to fully lock in place. I think some oil will help that. The blade was sharp out of the package. I didn't test it, but it was certainly sharp to the touch. The sharpener is a awesome bonus item too. It's solid. Made with a metal shell and a beautiful orange peel finish, but it did start to scratch while sharpening a knife.Despite the minor issues, I would highly recommend this knife. I will offer another update in the near future.

Surprisingly great knife.
Wanted the sharpener since its made MUCH better than the one from another company... wont say any names.Solid piece of metal holding a lot of utility for knives and hooks. Love that I can sharpen serrated with it and flip the blades when they get worn./The knife is actually my favorite part of this. I initially thought why not get the knife its a cheap addition to the sharpener but WOW!It comes incredibly sharp and is still pretty sharp for me even though I have used it daily for about 2 months. I even cut a soda can with it and its fine. The size when opened is awesome. It gives you a lot of control and would probably scare the crap out of somebody if you needed to use it in self defense. When its closed its actually very modest looking. Doesn't look like the large blade that it is. On top of that the ascetic design of it is modest as well. Nothing stupid and unnecessarily flashy so you wont look foolish carrying it. The back even has a glass breaker that doesn't look like a hole punch. Being able to change the pocket clip also allows you to hold this knife in your pocket without its larger parts exposed making it even more modest looking on your person. In all I came for the sharpener but have been super happy I decided to grab the knife as well because it has turned out to be my EDC and one of my best blades I have ever owned.

UTR7 combo very good deal
I like this Lansky UTR7. I have many folders, CS Voyager, Kershaws, Kbar, SOG, Moras - eh + others. I really like the light weight of kbar Hunter and even more the Byrd Meadowlark2. This Lanskys drawback is the weight 5.88 oz. otherwise I'm very happy with it over all my other blades. I like the look, blade is very sharp, the way it flips open and the click (the wt).

Incredible, Incredible Value!!
Both the sharpener and knife are incredible values for the price. For the average person (not a professional knifesmith), the Lansky sharpener is the best tool available unless you're willing to invest big $$$ and time. I've been sharpening knives since the age of 8, and I own a lot of knives (some very expensive), and I use this to sharpen them all. Take care with the carbide sharpener (not too much pressure unless the edge is wrecked), and mostly use the ceramic, and you won't be disappointed. As for the knife, my expectations were quite low and I'm actually blown away. Firm lock-up, no wiggle, blade centered, good steel, great handle, great size for EDC, and the non-assisted opening is as smooth as butter - especially with a drop or two of oil. This is a really good knife regardless of the price, and as I said, I own a lot of knives. I was prepared to just toss it, but it'll definitely be part of my EDC rotation. Just buy it!

Just pefect!
First impressions are great! Will be trying this out for my EDC and keep this updated. This is a very solid knife. No wiggle up or down on the blade. Great edge on it (coming from a knife sharpening company I hoped so) It is a bit hefty and might deter some but it is just perfect for me. The hands has a great stiff deep pocket clip and can be changed depending on your carry style. The Sharpener is outstanding. Unlike most of this style of sharpener this is metal and not plastic. Makes it just feel so much more durable. The easy at which it works is great for sharpening or for just keeping the edge honed. Again I will update after carrying & sharpening for a while.

Hard to rate it better
Very disappointed. I expected this sharpener as an emergency tool to have available. It wasn't that. The package included two items. The knife and the sharpener. I suspect they included the knife as either part of the sharpening tool (could use the knife as a 'stone') or give the user experience sharping the knife or dull your already sharp knives. For a company that prides themselves as the premier sharpening guru's, the knife was not only dull right out of the box but would have a hard time expecting it to cut warm butter, effectively. So, moving to the sharpener. A poor example of a paper weight. Unless you already have an edge on your knife, AND expect to ruin it, quickly, this tool will do that. I used it to re-fresh a semi-dull knife and the end results were going back to my diamond stones to put an edge back on the knife. The use of the sharpener was not user error or not knowing how to use these types of sharpeners. For me, it isn't even worth carrying as an emergency tool. I wanted something small and light to carry with me in the field and found that this isn't it. Back to the knife. Once I put a good edge, using diamond stones, the knife was and remains exceptional in design and function. But why should the user have to "resharpen" a knife from a sharpening company. I realize they are not a knife dealer/company but you would think that they would do better. Bottom line? Probably a good tool to dull your knives and then use quality stones to "practice" your sharpening techniques. Which may be the company's agenda. After all they promote sharpening tools that are adequate for 'casual' knife sharpening. Not my first choice, however. Save your time and money and just purchase the knife separately and move on. Maybe the company will get into making good pocket sharpeners that actually sharpen knives.
