Great Tool for Therapists and School Professionals
I'm a school social worker and this book helps me in sessions with students. I make copies of the pages and have students read it with me and reflect on its content. This is great for anyone that works with middle school and teenage children.

Great resource for Black Girls!
Marline wrote this book in order to elevate and empower Blacks girls but I believe this book should be read by not only Black girls but Black women as well. She speaks to the girl in you who needs love, acceptance, healing and to be heard and seen. She talks about the struggles we face with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, and colorism.Reading this book, I heard her voice. I felt like she was speaking to me. I felt like she knew me, knew my story, knew my struggles. She spoke to that little girl in me who questioned her worth. She spoke to that little girl who would cry alone in her room because she had to carry the darkness of her past. She spoke to that little girl who was sexually assaulted but couldn’t tell anyone. She gave that little girl hope and let her know she could heal and no longer feel broken.Marline talks about the benefits of therapy and prioritizing your mental health. She teaches you about anxiety, depression, self harm, sexual abuse, grief and loss and many other challenges Black girls face. She even dedicated a section to parents where provides insight and education on how to support their daughters.I really love that she included journal prompts and activities at the end of each chapter, giving her readers an opportunity to reflect and apply the tools she is teaching.I highly recommend this book and don’t regret purchasing it at all. Get one for that girl in your life and while you’re at it, get a copy for yourself too.

I'm using this book with clients.
I love this book; I have been using this book in therapy with my young Black female clients. I encourage them to read the book and then we discuss it during part of the session. The sections on depression, anxiety, self-esteem and sexual assault. Thank you so much

Incredible Resource for Black Girls
As a high school counselor over the years, many students have approached me with problems in practically each area mentioned in this book. Marline presents real life issues Black girls are going through, in which they do not always get the support they need. She provides real life testimonials and tips/strategies for Black teen girls to address their problems and even to help others. This book is now another tool I can use to help my young black girls. The State of Black Girls is a great resource for teen girls and young women in a book club, girl/ women's group, personal use and for those who serve this population.

Great Book for Teens of Color
This book starts the conversation on issues that girls of color face. I am a licensed therapist in private practice and use this book with my teen girls who are dealing with issues that are introduced in this book. I recommend the parents to purchase one for most of the girls I work with. Topics range from depression, starting therapy, and developing self-identity/self-concept. It's such an easy read for the girls that they go through the pages quickly and helps feel more comfortable to bring up the topics that impact them the most! I highly recommend for any teen girl!

Thank you for seeing us!
This book is a guide for every single black teen girl. This is the book we all needed growing up. I'm a school social worker and I cannot wait to share this book with my students and their parents. The best thing about the book is that at the end of each chapter there is an exercise to complete. We have to do this work with our black girls and let them know we see and hear them. This book is a excellent guide and resource for Black girls. Definitely a must read and this book will impact generations and communities to come.

Much Needed!
I just finished reading this book and it was awesome! What a great resource for Black and Brown girls to identify with and gain understanding that they are not alone in their experiences. I particularly liked the activity prompts for the reader to engage with. This allows for continuation of learning, exercising and applying. I wish I had this book to read during my teenage years. Game-Changer. And I will be gifting some of the young girls in my family with this gem. Thank you!
