Medical Laboratory Science Review

I'm currently studying for my certification for MLT (recent graduate). I took time off after finishing college to regain my sanity. Re familiarizing myself with the material has been more of a struggle than I imagined. I've got the BOC from ASCP, my text books, a LabCE membership (which I recommend), and I purchased this book to have another angle of learning. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I work overnights at a hospital and I have downtime periods where I can study am doing I use just this book. What I like: it's comprehensive; the answers with explanations are on the same page adjacent to the questions; it is sectioned off not only by category of study, but by more-specific areas (i.e. Hemostasis versus platelet disorders ). Also, it comes with a CD that has additional questions in test format. My favorite part about it isn't that it's mostly case studies, which, in my opinion, are the best study tools. If you understand the conditions that are relative to the measurements, remembering abnormalities are much more simple.

The book is really good and helpful for my certification exam. Answer-keys in the book does provide every single detail one needs to know for the exam.

Bought this for my daughter to assist her with taking her MLS certification exam. I was beyond frustrated when we also had experienced the CD not working. To fix the issue, you must manipulate the PC a bit. To get it to install and bypass the cannot access network error, all you need to do is change the date is to change the date of your PC to prior to 9/30/17. THEN, on your desktop, right-click the icon and change the compatibility to Windows XP... THEN you will get a permissions error, to bypass this, you have to run as the "hidden admin" on your PC. To fix, watch the video on youtube titled 'SOLVED "Windows Cannot Access the Specified Device Path or File. Not Appropriate Permission Error"' on youtube by dreamerBros. I hate I cannot provide the link due to the guidelines. It gives you detailed instructions. THEN when you log on as the hidden admin, you can run the program. I do not understand this as I have admin rights on my User account. I don't know why, but I just know it worked. I am able at times to access after following the above steps by right clicking and opening as admin on my regular account, but it does not always work. Hope you found this helpful! update: Some have been able to install with much more ease by changing the date of the PC by bypassing the setup file. Install Adobe AIR, then it automatically installs everything else. No additional error messages. Good luck!

This book was very useful. I recommend it for anyone taking ASCP certification for MLS. It is an extensive review. I read only this book and was able to pass at my 1st attempt. It's been 5 yrs since I graduated, and have not practiced for the last 2 yrs. Great book!

I have been an MLT for many years, and decided to go back to school for my Bachelor's in Medical Technology. I thought after 18 years, I knew a lot of things. Well, after purchasing this book I realized how much I didn't know. There is so much information in here, covering all disciplines of lab practice- from phlebotomy and specimen collection, to Micro(all of your favorite manual methods), to Genetics. The questions range from your basic lab knowledge, to obscure formulas and "old fashioned" test methods. They always say you should understand the principles of a test, not just how to press run. This is a very comprehensive and thorough study guide, and I poked in and out of it for a couple months, being a little hesitant to sit for the boards. Apparently I learned a few things studying from this book because I passed my MLS exam on the first try. I would recommend this book, as you never know what will be on the board exams, because each test is tailored to the individual taking it based on previous answers, so you never know what you will get. Best to be prepared, you can never know too much. Good read!

I'm about to take the MLT exam and start school for my MT. I ordered this book after getting frustrated with the BOC review book - lots of great questions, but virtually no explanation on answer rationale apart from citing their sources. This book, however, has a small paragraph explaining the answer for each question clearly and concisely. It does not distinguish which questions are MLT vs MT level though, even though it is marketed for both.

I needed a comprehensive book for my MLS review since I failed my first attempt (I’m a horrible test taker-anxiety). So this time I will attempt to read this one. It arrived on time and the though its used, it was book bind properly by the distributor! I really appreciate that!!!! I’ve only read some parts in Chemistry (my weakness) and it really explains the question and answer beautifully. What I do is, I study first the subtopic using my notes, then I take the BOC subtopic quiz and do Harr subtopic quiz. It’s like from vague to comprehensive and so far its working for me.

Whether you're a student or an instructor, this book has amazingly well-constructed MCQs that covers the most important learning objectives in the CLS 6 different specialties. I especially love the comprehensive explanation of the correct answer as well as the explanation of the reasons behind exclusion of other distractors in the MCQ choices.

So many great questions! The only drawbacks are if you're buying this as an MLT to study for the CSMLS exam...there is no section on histology, and units are american (mg/dL etc). Even so I found it very helpful to solidify my theory knowledge and loved that every question explained the theory behind the correct answer.

High quality paper. Deep, clear with straight forward explanations. It has the cream of Medical Technology course!

Came in just in time. Browsed the contents as soon as I got it (printed on quality paper). Great for review coz the questions got rationales and subjects are complete and well organized. Haven't tried the CD that comes with it yet. Only bummer is that the book came with little little dents on the side of the cover other than that, its a great tool for review.

I liked this book because it gave the principle behind each answer. Great way to direct your studying if you're the kind of person that doesn't memorize things just by reading
