Q: What makes this version "traditional" versus general Catholic knowledge/practices?

Thank you for the question. We label this game "traditional" as the author developed it prior the Second Vatican Council. That said, the information contained is simply basic Catholic teaching. So the questions concerning the Liturgy refer to the Traditional Latin Mass, or Extraordinary Form. Thanks again for the question. Please let us know if you would like more information.

Not necessarily. While it is designed to be compatible with a Trivia Pursuit board, the box includes suggested ways of playing without the board.
