Modus Furniture Solid Wood Nightstand, 2-Drawer, Element - Chocolate Brown

I ordered on a Friday and got a delivery attempt by the following Tuesday. And that is with supersaver free shipping!!! Wow!! Seems to be made well, probably better than most casegood items one can buy at one of the popular entry level furniture stores out there. There are some drawbacks, not sure what "asian mahogany" is but I really think they mean rubberwood, or parawood, which is basically another name for rubberwood. Rubberwood is a decent wood for furniture making but nothing like real mahogany...or even real maple or oak for that matter. There is a cherry looking woodgrain finish veneer over most visable parts you see. The top pull out tray appears to be MDF underneath but with Cherry veneer on top. Drawer fronts and sides all seem to be solid wood, not MDF again with the visible parts having some type of cherry veneer. There are two drawers. The first horizontal handle at the top is one drawer, the two horizontal handles at the bottom are a deeper, single drawer. Drawer glides are nice, NOT the cheaper euro metal rail wheel combination that is popular on cheaper units. The drawer glides are mounted in the center on each side of the drawers.Drawer construction seems to be more of a french dovetail, not english dovetail. Most of the usual pieces of wood, from what I can tell, are solid albiet rubberwood with cherry woodgrain finish on it. The stain is darker that the picture, but only slightly. Another reviewer pointed out how the rear panel is screwed in, not nailed or tacked....I also thought this is a nice touch. There was no damage during shipping and the packaging seemed good. The box I got was in good condition, no holes or tears. The nightstand seems packaged well and the container was packed with enough styrofoam, but if this fell off the back of a truck or was dropped on a hard surface more than a few inches off the ground, I suspect there would be stuctural damage to the piece.Overall, I am very pleased with it. The hardware is larger and more substantial that what I thought it would be. Ordered this piece for a spare bedroom to see if I would be ordering additional pieces to complete the set. I probably will at some point, hopefully they don't discontinue this line before I get a chance to order the rest, which may be several months before I am able to do so. Would recommend this over the garbage casegoods you can buy at most of the moderate/entry level furniture stores and this is about the same price with the delivery included. A similar piece from a major furniture label I looked at was well over $600, shipping not included. Very comparable construction, only the brand name one had a charging station in one of the drawers. So for a $350 savings, I will plug various chargable devices right into the wall.

***Edit: Updated review from 1-star to 4-stars. I discovered that the drawers can be disassembled and re-assembled onto the rails by engaging the levers on both sides of the drawer track (pull one up, pull the other down). Now both of my pieces are 100% functional. Other thoughts: I'm seeing there are some areas where the manufacturer cut corners to save on cost - the back panel of the cabinet and bottoms of the drawers are barely more than paper-thin, maybe 1/8" - 1/16" of balsa wood which rattles when you tap on it. Regardless I'm okay with it since it's going to be up against a wall and I don't plan on dropping a bowling ball in the drawer (I'm sure it would go right through the thin wood).***Original review***I ordered two of these and they both had issues with the construction of the drawers and the sliding mechanism.On #1: I immediately noticed that the lower drawer is only attached to the metal railing system on the right side, on the left side the rail is loose and the drawer doesn't easily go in and out (only with a lot of force). It also doesn't open straight.On #2: The lower drawer is fine, but has the same issue as #1 with the pull-out tray, the rail is only attached on the right side so it takes a LOT of force to pull it out, and it comes out crooked because it's hanging by one side.I'm not sure if I can fix these messed up rails myself, otherwise I wouldn't care about the issues with the build. If I were to keep these I would glue the faulty drawers shut and just use it as a decorative table.

The media could not be loaded.  I love the size and look from afar. However, the corners look beat up and cracked. Also, there is no cutout for cords like pictured. No soft close drawers but they seem to close fine. Lots of space. Good price for a large nightstand ($365 each at the time). Oxford.

Bought two of these nightstands. They were very well packaged and arrived in good condition. The pieces are a bit on the red toned side, likeperhaps a cross between a cherry and a mahogany tone. If you are in need of a brown tone, look elsewhere. For my needs, the color is fine, and attractive The hardware seems nice and of quality. The negatives are that the pull out shelf is not well supported and droops at like a 10 degreeangle or such when pulled all the way out. I don't suppose this is a real issue, but it seems like something that could have been corrected in the design of the end table. The other negative, and the main reason I gave this table 4 stars vs 5 stars, is that both tables had a pretty strong odor. I did not notice the smell myself,, but my wife did, and insisted that the tables be removed from the bedroom. After sitting in another room for 10 days or so (with the the drawers left wide open), we reintroduced the end tables into the bedroom, and the odor had diminished substantially. At this point, 6 weeks from arrival, the order is apparently gone, or largely diminished. I don't know if someone more sensitive than my wife however might still have an issue?

The dresser is part of the Ella collection by Modus. I purchased the head/footboard about a year ago, bot couldn’t find any other pieces. Then came across the dresser & nightstands on Amazon. They are 100% genuine wood, have metal slides in drawers and are durable. Great find!
