Solid professional looking multi-color pen
This is one of my favorite pens for everyday use. It is solid and professional looking while still giving me multiple ink colors for use in my planner.

Good solid writing instrument
This is a good solid pen that reduces bulk and the number of items I have to keep track of. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is the ink, sometimes it is slow to flow and I have to find a piece of scratch paper to scribble on to start it going again. It fits my hand well, functions well mechanically, looks business like and gives a good appearance at meetings and while working, unlike some of the cheap plastic ones. I do a lot of legal briefs that are color coded. This allows me to work while travelling or at a desk without having to keep track of several different color pens. This is a Feb 2015 update, and I am now giving the pen 5 stars. I fixed the ink problem by switching to Fischer Bullet Pen refills. Sadly they only come in Black, Blue, and Red, but for my work the Green that comes from the mfgr. is good enough. At least for me this is now the perfect writing instrument. Having lasted this long it is obviously stout, especially given the amount of use it gets! pretty good; i don't like the noise or the loose feeling
It feels good in the hand. Looks like it should. I really like the Lamy 2k desgin, despite having zero L2K pens that are unqualified good LOL. I have the fountain pen in EF and it writes a M line. This pen checks a lot of boxes for me but it just doesn't feel as good as I need it to. It's not transparent. I.e. it doesn't become part of my hand. Or it hasn't yet. Pro: four colors. good for literature notes. the Zebra gel D1 refills are pretty nice. Also tried Uni Jetstream in this, which was nice but there is no green. I don't like non-hybrid ballpoint refills I like the form. So tidy. Feels like a workhorse pen that can travel. Doesn't really feel out of place anywhere. Small enough. I can sit in my pocket with a pocket notebook or sit on my desk. Con: the gravity mech is loose by definition. it rattles if I pick up the pen and slap it back down on the page with too much force. THIS IS THE BIG ONE FOR ME: the refill doesn't sit as tight in hole as other pens. At first I thought it was the size of the hole but it's more than that. It just doesn't feel like the refill is one continuous rigid assembly with the body. On cheap multipens, e.g. Pilot hi-tec-c Coleto 1000 (my favorite), the refill locks in TIGHT. There is no play - it's as rigid as writing with a wooden pencil. The Rotring 600 3-in-1 is about halfway between that and this, the Lamy 2000 Multipen The L2K just feels a little wobbly. Not really noticeably. It's more like a creeping sensation that accumulates over a session. And also I notice that my handwriting is less controlled/consistent when I use this pen. Overall I still like the pen. That design really is charming. It's the most beautiful multipen I have - by a mile. And I still like at least the idea of the mechanism.

Beautiful pen
I love the texture of holding it in your hand. The mechanism to change colors is ingenious. The blue ink is vibrant. It skips at first, but once you start writing its smooth.

Lamy Four Color Pen - Five Stars!
I’m an adjunct instructor at a local university and have been using this four color pen since I. Ought it new here in February 2019. I use it everyday. I typically teach three classes per spring and fall semesters, and one class in the summer semester. Sometimes they are three different courses and sometimes two are the same. I had been using four Lamy Safari fountain pens with different color inks, one for each class I’m teaching when writing notes in my planner. I bought this particular pen so I could do the same with just one pen. For example, blue for my online class, green for the hybrid class, and red for the class that is fully classroom. I use the black color for non-school notes or personal to do’s. Bought refills for all four colors but have yet to replace any of the originals that came with the pen. Writes extremely smooth. Good heft to it. Just bought a second one for my wife. After two years of daily use I cannot find one thing that I don’t like about this pen. Everyone has different tastes, this one suits me just fine. Highly recommended.

Pen can (and will) break!
I love this pen, besides the fact that it’s noisy. However it got washed and dried in the dryer. ink exploded in the mechanism and now the selector is not functioning. Very sad. I’ll just stick to the single color BP pens from now on. Almost better to keep the D1 refills close and change when I need to than to have the multi. At least I’d still have a pen. I’m not mad, just disappointed…

Have been using for over 30 years!
My wife bought this for me when I was a struggling PhD student. She had heard that having a four color pen can help with note taking clarity. I have loved this pen ever since. As I moved from taking classes to teaching them, having four colors has been an incredible help. Sure the pen is not without its flaws, but find another four color pen at a cheaper price that doesn't look like it came out of a vending machine. This is a great pen for a fair price. I bought this one because I dropped my other one and (after thirty years) it broke. I have sent this one back either two or three times for repair and I decided it was time for a new one. I don't want to be without this pen. It has been very helpful for me. Your mileage may vary.

Don't buy
Lousy refills that do not write unless the pen is held upright. Better options available for much less.

Nice smooth pen
Comes in a nice box. Writes smoothly. Sometimes might have to shake the pen to move the little ball in the pen to select a different colour

One pen to rule them all?
Very impressed by the LAMY 2000 pencil I next bought the matching fountain pen, also excellent, and decided to complete the set with the multi pen. Like the others, it is exquisitely made. The engineering is so precise that you can't even see or feel the join in the barrel until you learn where it is. The selected refill is held very precisely so there is no detectable movement - just perfect. Like the pencil and fountain pen, it fits very comfortably in the hand and feels so 'right' A pleasure to hold and use, it is not a toy or gimmicky, it is a precise and very practical instrument. Although the standard LAMY refills are pretty good, you can of course change them for any 'D1' alternatives. I now use an ultra fine Hi-tec gel black which allows very precise detailing and extremely small writing if you need it. A very worthwhile change for me and more pleasant than a standard ball point. I have also changed the blue to a Tombow BR-VMP. It is a pressurised 'space pen' refill which allows upside down use and the ability to write on wet or greasy paper. The Tombow writes no better than the standard refill but its nice to know you can do extreme things with it if you need to. Finally I have changed the green, which I never use, to a LAMY marker refill. This is florescent orange and acts reasonably well as a highlighter; far more useful to me than green. There are of course plenty of other alternatives if you want to experiment. I have heard that the Schmidt D1 refills are a bit special but I have not tried them. One word of warning!! When I first started changing refills I got in a bit of a mess because I was holding the pen horizontally. If you do that it allows the floating ball to move whilst changing and it jams the mechanism. You need to hold the pen vertically with the refills pointing upwards! To cure the jam, just unscrew the clip retainer and pull the button up. The clip may well fall out, as it is only held in place when the end is screwed on, so don't lose it! With that one warning, I have no hesitation in giving it 5 stars. It is difficult to see how it could be improved.

Great build quality. Works perfectly and clever design
I love this pen. It is sleek, stylish, functional and cleverly designed. I have lost a couple and had one stolen, but I keep replacing it as it is so good.
