The Mate Factor, Tea Mate Green Tea Organic Loose, 12 Ounce

This is such high quality green mate, (you can find out why on their website), it converted me from chimarrao which I thought could never happen. One thing to note is that mate is not like black or green tea in that it doesn't get bitter or stewed the longer it's in the water. The opposite in fact. Bitterness is more a function of the initial water temperature, I like 160F but you could go even lower. If you're interested in a deeper or richer flavor without going to a gourd, you can try a few things besides using more mate. Easiest is to add a small amount of cold water to the leaves first to open them up. You can also grind the leaves a little finer (gently, by hand is better for avoiding powder than by machine) to get both deeper flavor and more body. Finally, most effective is put the leaves in cold water in a glass jar ahead of the brew time, put this in the fridge if it's the night before, then heat this gently in a waterbath to temperature in the morning. This, along with prior grinding, gives a cup with a more intense and longer taste, and at 160F, 1-2T per 6 ounces of water, a great lingering sweetness to the finish.

This is definitely the best Yerba Mate that I've had. It is consistently very flavorful and makes a delicious tea that gives me energy without a crash later or any jitters. I would certainly recommend it

I bought this because I'm trying intermittent fasting, 16 hours fasting, and 8 hours of eating time. I read that yerba maté is an appetite suppressant. When I drink this in the morning, I have zero problem waiting until 12 PM to eat. One morning I tried just my normal herbal tea and I was having a very tough time, then I drank some yerba maté, and I was immediately comfortable with no problem holding out till later. Also, it is very energizing, I advise being careful how much of it you drink because you can get pretty wired. Most natural remedies have very subtle effects, so I am quite surprised that this works so well. Also, this particular product seems very fresh, and the green version of yerba maté seems much healthier. Anyway, thumbs up.

Freshest, greenest, most vibrantly delightful Yerba Mate I have purchased. Be advised, other companies smoke their mate or process their mate through a prolonged drying process that I suspect affects the nutritional qualities and flavor profile of the resulting product. Although I can certainly admit that this is a high price to pay when compared to the smoked product you can find in certain ethnic stores or supermarkets, I am willing to invest in a product produced by a company with such strict quality control and that ensures the mate is green as hell and delightful. Of course, perhaps if you are not accustomed to the freshness and deep vegetal taste of this mate, you might be repelled from taking further sips, but I say unto you, "Do not give in to old habits, for they will send you to the bottomless pits of hell." In other words, try embracing this fresher mate, and I think you will find that it feels better in your body, and is bereft of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or the consequences of oxidative degradation as a result of prolonged exposure to air.

This might just be my new go to Yerba Mate! I was using the one in the Yellow bag forever... another organic brand... Then some one turned me onto this product! Thank You! I believe it might even be a little less expensive than the Guayaki brand that I was buying... Although I have tried most brands on the market... I drink this every morning (2 tsp in a tea strainer, pour hot water over, wait 7 minutes and pull the strainer out and enjoy) I often add honey to my cup of Yerba mate. Always buy organic herbs and spices to avoid the fumigation and irradiation that is being used on ALL conventional spices, herbs and teas imported! Made my tea in a French press, not a lot of flavor, would say if the color green had a flavor this would be it. Will get try and get used to it. Little difficult getting used to after being a coffee drinker for so long. Haven't been drinking it consistently enough to speak about any health benefits.

Big loose green tea drinker. Read about Yerba Mate and this is a good organic supplier. The tea had a very soothing slighty spaced out effect to my senses (and no I do not smoke or take any kinda of contraband). So just bear this in mind if you are a first time drinker. Excellent with dried mint and honey. Slightly grassy green tea taste.

I know that mate is meant to have a number of health benefits, but only if you can drink it of course. I made it the traditional way in a gourd, sucking through a "bombilla". However, the taste was horrible, like grass (ie from the lawn, nothing stronger but still undrinkable to my mind. Best to try one of the tea bag type preparations first I would say, before going for the full mate kit.
