M.V. Trading WKB-10 Wok Cleaning Whisk, 10-Inch

The 10" Cleaning Whisk is the most simplest of designs yet indispensable for cleaning a traditional wok. A well seasoned wok only needs a little water and a light scrub and that's what this whisk does. A traditional scrub brush will take too much seasoning off your wok and leave you with peels that have to be re-seasoned. This is the way professional wok chefs do it and it's inexpensive to do at home as well.

I think I ordered this because it was featured on some blog I read. In the many months since then, it has worked reliably. It is constructed well, has held up to use, adds a nice and unusual highlight to the kitchen, and I like that it is made of bamboo.It is not a miracle whisk. I bought this specifically because of its claimed powers in cleaning cast iron pans. Well, we do a lot of frying in our cast iron and often have a lot of tough fried-in bits of food and grease leftover on the pans. Especially since we don't follow the best practice advice of the cast iron fanatics in scrubbing our pans ("with nothing more than salt and a paper towel!") approximately 5 microseconds after finishing cooking. Sometimes you just want to eat, man.Anyway, I find that this whisk is almost useless if used in whisking mode - held perpendicularly to the surface of the pan, it barely removes any of the grime. What it does do in this orientation is spring-load the individual bamboo stalks which then shoot bits of food, dirty water, and grease out to the side.We learned pretty quickly that the best use of the whisk was to hold it closer to the parallel and use it as a scraper. In this orientation it works very well and the size of the bristles is perfect for scraping stuff out of the hard to reach corners. And because it is bamboo we do not have to worry about scraping the pan or ruining the precious baked-on seasoning.It's cheap, it works. I'm happy with it.

Came totally chock full of disgusting weird dust. Also chintzy and does not resemble item pictured. Threw away immediately

This is absolutely perfect for wok cleaning (or cleaning other things).The bamboo does not wreck the wok seasoning patina, but cleans out the wok in a jiffy.Just vigorously swish and scrub with some hot water, and you are done. Before your guests can get from the kitchen stool to the table, you are done cleaning!Wok shop is a great store in San Francisco. Their hand hammered woks are great too. I recommend this highly.

Works ok. 6-7" would be better

I'd probably buy the 7" version instead of the massive 10" version next time, but this works as advertised. It is a bit massive and there is no hook or rope to easily hang this item in your kitchen.The green bamboo bristles still smell green but when it came time to clean the wok without destroying all the seasoning I worked so hard to put on there it did admirably.I've included a photo in the product description with it in my 15" cast iron wok to help give you an idea of how big it is.Would not recommend using this wok brush on non-cast iron items (like teflon pans since it might scratch it).

Decided to keep it, use it even though I didn't like the size. Two uses and the wrapping around the end starting unraveling. Maybe the 7 " would be better made. Oh well...

I had read several reviews saying this was a cheap wok brush that came apart. No way! I ordered it because it was inexpensive, and the one I received is sturdy and does the job as advertised. There is nothing about it's construction that would lead one to believe that it is anything other than high quality. I use it to clean my cast iron griddle and it does the absolute best job. I'm very happy.
