Landranger Active (97) Kendal, Morecambe, Windermere & Lancaster (OS Landranger Active Map)

Quality mapping for those not rushing around: clear and up to date for those on foot or bike. I bought it for going on a first-time trip along the Lancaster Canal, and it was frustrating to have the north end of the navigation fall off the top of the page. It complements well the Canal Guides, and gives a wider understanding of where the canal is in relation to the wider world. Adding bridge numbers would make it (and other sheets with canals) much more useful to canal cruisers, without detracting from its usefulness for others.

I have been using OS maps for years, ' man and boy ', and for me, they are indispensable. I realise that there is C21 st. technology for getting A to B ' on tarmac ' , given 2 post codes, ECPC. But I'm not aware of a similar system that works for footpaths in ' the wild blue yonder ' ?, just going point to point on the ground - yes, I've heard of ' sat- nav ' - but that still can't give you the details of eg. terrain, that one of a number of ' OS ' maps can provide for advance planning. ( Spread out on the table ! ) I am, of course, the proud owner of dozens of OS maps, mainly Landranger, and I can and do read them. I am a convert and ' dinosaur ' !

Again nothing to dislike about the map. Shows the roads and terrain in the areas covered.
