Knife Comparison (Harnds vs Gerber vs Columbia River)
I purchased the following folding knives and did a review on them. I was looking for something $40 or less that can be used as a general utility knife while overlanding/camping. I don't intend to use the knife for hunting. These reviews are solely based on inspection of the knife in person. No cutting or durability tests were performed. I will update my review if there is an issue with the knife I selected as the winner.Gerber Bear Grylls Folding Sheath KnifeColumbia River Knife & Tool Hammond CruiserHarnds Folding Hunting Knife 4.2"Reviews:Gerber Knife (3rd place):- Pros: Good handle and weight.. Gerber company. Includes case.- Cons: The serration if you look closely takes up more than 50% of the blade. For my usage that was too much. No secondary lock. Lock release mechanism is on the backside rather than the typical spot under the blade. A little tough to push at times. Too much weight towards knife.Harnds Knife (2nd place):- Pros: Big, good value for how much knife you get. Secondary locking mechanism. Big blade big knife, seems heavy duty. Good handle. Includes case.- Cons: Too heavy for my usage. I am looking for a utility knife. This knife seems more purposed for heavy duty applications. $15 more than the other two knives. Other than that, pretty solid.Columbia River Knife (Winner)- Pros: Great size. Handle, weight, and balance, all feels great. It was the only knife with an EZ out flip switch on the handle (top side in addition to thumb knob). Secondary locking mechanism. Cheapest of the three knives. Good serration size.- Cons: Does not include case. Some reviews questioned durability over time.Summary: My brother and I both concluded the CR knife won hands down without consideration of price. It is also the cheapest option, so I can buy a replacement if this ever breaks. Feels fantastic and can't wait to use it.

Excellent product, great value
I was looking for a decent tactical folding knife... Wow, I never realized they've become so popular. There are so many available, it's a “kid in a candy store” syndrome trying to pick one out. After considerable effort browsing through uncountable models here, I settled on this package, and I'm surely glad I did.Pros:- In addition to its liner thumb lock, it sports a lock-back switch on the opposite side which makes the blade impossible to close even if the former is depressed. It's so unobtrusive, I didn't even notice it at first (see photos).- Perfect combination of regular and serrated surfaces, a 50/50 split for a total of about 4” of blade length.- The handle has a great ergonomic design and checkered surface, making it easy to hold onto without any fear of your hand slipping. It's also got a nicely weighted and solid feel, but not overly heavy.- The blade is stainless steel with a tough black coating (very cool looking), and came out of the box as sharp as a razor.- There seems to be a craze these days for spring-assisted knives. In my opinion, they only introduce more moving parts that are prone to failure. While this one is not, it still opens very quickly using the thumb stud, and there's one on each side to accommodate both righties and lefties.- While shopping, I was baffled to find that 99% of tactical knives don't come with a sheath.Belt clips are okay (and this knife does indeed have one), but obviously you don't want a folding knife opening accidentally while you're wearing it.The nylon sheath is rugged, and its features are absolutely awesome. It has a large belt loop of around 3”, more than enough to accommodate any belt width, and attaches using both a large snap button and a Velcro strip. There's no way it could ever detach, until you do it yourself. As for storing the knife, likewise the flap is secured with a large snap button. The inside is even lined with some sort of felt material. It's such a perfect, tight fit, there's even a reinforced hole at the bottom to allow air to escape when you're inserting the knife.Cons:Zip, nada. A perfect product as far as I'm concerned. No doubt about it, I'm an immensely happy customer. Considering its quality and price range, this package is an absolute steal, and highly recommended.
