Christmas at Highclere: Recipes and Traditions from The Real Downton Abbey

This is a most beautiful book. It is well written and gives a look into the fall and winter season at Highclere today. Wonderful photographs and a look into Christmas foods of England. I used to check this book out of the library every year around Christmas time, but now have invested in my own copy. A high quality book but well worth the investment. There are other books by the author also well worth the read.

As a Downtown Abby lover, a history buff and a novice chef this book needless to say is a 5 star winner to me ! It’s like reading the great novel you can’t put down because you just have to read “one more page”. It is full of wonderful tips and ideas to prepare ones home to delight all the friends and family entertained over the holidays. Not to mention answering many times the “ question “ where does this tradition originate? The recipes are written to include ingredients indigenous to England. However with a little help from google gurus I have been able to interchange those ingredients readily available to me. Sometimes the mystery ingredient just goes by a different name than I’m familiar with. And I will add the recipes are delicious! I purchased this book after buying and using the The Downtown Abby Cookbook. (Another must have for Foodies) The book is also beautifully illustrated with photos of the Castle and grounds as it is today, but includes a peek into the window of yesteryear when the Highclere residents and staff were preparing for the many events leading up to the New Year. A beautiful book I love it!

This book is absolutely fabulous! The writing is very detailed and interesting, the pictures are absolutely gorgeous. It makes you want to be there and the recipes sound yummy. I would recommend this book to anybody that is interested in Downton Abbey.

I love everything Highclere, especially Lady Carnarvon, so I knew I would love this book. It is sumptuously produced in terms of both text and photos as well as the production values such as design, layout, and luscious paper quality. It's the highlight of my collection of Christmas books. I was just reading it again today (mid-June!) for a trip forward (and back) to Christmastime. I highly recommend it in every way.

I was thrilled to learn that there was a book out about my favorite tv series. Bonus that there are many recipes and photos that were wonderful! I ordered four copies and gave them to several of the closest ladies I have in my circle of family and friends. We LOVED them!

There aren’t enough stars to rate how pleased , I am with this purchase! I have always been skeptical about purchasing used books however, I must say I could not be happier with this book and the seller. It truly is an even better condition than I could’ve imagined! So glad I did not pay $50 for this book at full price!

Truly a stunning coffee table book - if you can bear to put it down!My sister is an interior designer and also a Dalton Abbey fan. I gave her this book for Christmas in 2019.She immediately went out and picked flowers in Texas, then bought more at a florist and recreated one of the floral arrangements illustrated in the book.She ADORES this book.Downton Abbey fans and lovers of this book enjoy receiving Lady Carnarvon’s weekly blog posts via email. I did not watch Downton Abbey and originally bought this book for my husband who watched the series thinking it was filled with Christmas photos of the castle as well as some information about the series. He loves Christmas and loved the Highclere Castle. Much to my surprise, the book arrived and it’s basically a cookbook. Luckily, I am a good cook and love cookbooks and ended up keeping this for myself. Good thing or I would’ve been highly disappointed. By the way, the recipes are divine. It’s so much of a cookbook that my husband isn’t even going to want to look through this as almost every page is a recipe. Keep that in mind when buying this because I didn’t realize that nor did the other reviews state that. I’d also like to add that it took a few weeks for this book to arrive. Maybe it came from England but don’t expect this right away.
