I'm certain I'll get to the history of the knife, fork, and spoon, but I'm still busy wrapping my head around the idea that it was easier to communicate with England than "the next colony over" during colonial times (plus a ton of other facts we should have been taught in American schools).

Bryson takes you through the entire house, room by room, and in each room, takes you through the history of that room, how and why it came to be. His history is very far reaching, indeedI found this book fascinating. It provided historical insights I've never heard before. I was sorry when it ended.

Who knew the history of houses could be such a fun read? And the hardback book is very nice; a high quality binding with very heavy, glossy pages. All in all, this book is a pleasure to own and read.

Fascinating read - this is history education the way it should be taught. It is 2" book, so if turning pages isn't your thing, get the audio version.

Lots of interesting trivia inside.

I loved this book so much that I bought more copies to give away as presents. You will learn many facts about everyday objects and their origins. It'll keep you thinking long after you've finished the book.
