This Powermate 5500 watt portable propane generator with recoil/electric start has a powerful Powermate 420cc engine. Will accept a 20 or 30 lb. propane tank. Propane has an indefinite shelf life, there is no need for fuel stabilizers. Wheel kit included with the unit.

really like it, impressed with it
I just got mine and, so far, really like it, impressed with it. No more dealing with gas getting old and clogging the carburetor in my gas generator. I'll be selling it soon. This one was easy to put together, wasn't assembled in box. I've already started it. It is no louder than my gas version of the same wattage. I do intend to have my propane provider install a connection to my home system soon so that, in a prolonged outage, I can run the generator longer than a 20 lb tank would allow. Starting it is somewhat different. I'll get that routine down soon. It seems to take two efforts to get it going. Note that this company, Powermate, is now owned by Generac. I found this out when I called Powermate with a question and Generac answered. I always study, research, large purchases like this for several days before I buy. I think I have made a wise choice with this one and will avoid an annoying problem with gasoline, which today always seems to clog up machines when not used frequently. One more thing: The pull is somewhat hard to start. So very glad this Powermate has electric start with an included battery. The Generac version did not.Update: Dealer support is not very good. Many are not aware of this unit and many are not propane-certified to work on a propane unit. Many are not aware that Generac bought Powermate. After considerable time with my propane provider and numerous calls to Generac and their dealers I can only assume that page 20 of the manual showing that the unit can connect to a household propane source, from the big outside tank, is in error or missing a lot of pertinent info. Generac nor its dealers know the solution. The unit still works fine on propane bottles but it will not run well on the lower pressure from a large tank, even though it is at the level shown in the diagram. I have found little other info in any blog or online source of info. This is so typical of many products today. The office or headquarters hasn't a clue about what is in the field that is their own product.

Came with a dead battery so no electric start.
The generator is fine, easy to set up, but came with a dead battery, so no electric start. Minor inconvenience for a day, it could have been sitting a while. Major inconvenience after that, as I have trouble pulling the ripcord to start. I buy genny's with electric start for a reason, we use them a lot to charge our battery bank. My boyfriend threw the battery on a charger for 24 hours and still will only get up to 9.2V. This makes it a total PITA, as I have either have to drive an hour to the closest town to see if they even have the little battery and shell out $$ for it, order one on Amazon, wait a week, and shell out more $, or see if I can get it replaced and still wait. My warranty doesn't show up for another few days, so no matter which way, I'm stuck trying to charge my battery bank by fighting with a ripcord.

I have not had to use it yet but glad for the security of knowing we have it ready if needed. I have never owned one so to me it seems a bit loud - but I know it will do the job. I am just disappointed that the battery that came with it was damaged and I am still waiting for it's replacement. It will work without it. It I am not strong and and hope I will be able to start it up if needed (my brother set it up for me and said he would connect battery when I get it because he doesn't think I am strong enough either to pull that manual starter.

Happy with it.
Set up was easy, works fine, starts easily but electric start didn't work, as if brand new battery was dead.

The perfect investment.
I am amazed at this machine! It is simple yet convient. The adjustment from fossil fuel to propane is just evolution. This is a time when everyone needs to put on their thinking caps. I will report futher on this generator from time to time, in concert with the changing weather... for now... Thank you Amazon.com... WOOD.

Not at all suitable for RV use...
horribly LOUD! EXTREMELY heavy! It might work in some cases but not for us...

Battery is probem
I have had it for a couple of years and the battery never worked well. It did not hold a charge and I could not charge it up with my charger that works fine on my car batteries. The manual start is impossible so, at this point I put jumper cables to one of my car batteries and that will do it
