I love this blower! Of course, it’s more than just a blower, it comes with a programmable controller. The quality of the unit is excellent, from the electronic control module, the cables, the blower assembly, and the blower frame assembly. Though I do not know where it was assembled, this unit does not feel like a cheap Chinese import. The motor is a PWM, DC motor, and only consumes 12W of electricity on the high setting (200 CFM). I did a quick search of Amazon for similar fans with AC motors and found they consume anywhere from 35W (130 CFM ), 45W (160 CFM), and 75W (200 CFM). So this unit truly is a power saver compared to the AC motor units. When setting it up, I was confused initially because I tried to do it before I read the manual. I was frustrated that it didn’t have a separate on off button, and I had to cycle through five or six steps in the menu to get to the on/off setting. Then I read the manual. The unit has several auto settings, I used the “Auto – High Temp” setting, and accepted the default of 90°F. Using this setting, whenever the controller detects the fireplace temperature probe is at 90° or above, it automatically turns the fan on to a setting of 1 through 10, 10 being the default which I excepted. It truly is set and forget, I don’t foresee ever needing the on off button other than for troubleshooting. I did not install this blower on any of the intended gas fireplace inserts. I was looking for a blower motor for my older wood burning stove. I do not recommend that anybody do this, modifying a wood burning fireplace or stove is dangerous, and you can burn your house down, or poison yourself and your family with CO2 emissions. This information is for educational purposes only. My stove is an older Earth Stove T150, and has a 14.5 inch cut out at at the bottom of the rear heat shield for a blower kit. This 14 inch blower fit nicely in this slot, and I mounted it with a very easy modification using two small, but sturdy L brackets, and self tapping metal screws, the unit was mounted in less than 15 minutes. I mounted the controller, set up the auto setting on the controller, mounted the temp sensor, lit a fire, and this blower is amazing. It is extremely quiet on the mid to lower settings. You can hear it on the higher settings, but it is not intrusive in my opinion. In fact, I like to know that my blower humming along, so I like that aspect.PS – I mounted the temp sensor in the space between the rear heat shield, and the iron stove, above the fan, offset to the right, through one of the pre-drilled holes in the sheet metal. I left the temp probe hanging in the air, not touching any metal parts.

I retrofitted this into a wood burning insert and it works great. it seems to move about as much air as the original blower, but at a quieter volume level. I've had this plugged in non-stop for months and it operated flawlessly throughout my winter burns-- never had any issues, never had to unplug and plug it back in.I've used the app a few times to tweak settings-- and, same story. Seems to connect right up without issues and I haven't had any problems. I love that I can have this fan kick in at a certain temp and increase at a set rate as the temperature increases. I with it came with a Type K thermocouple for a more direct measurement of the firebox, but I was able to find a location on the outside of my insert that works well enough while still staying within whatever the temperature range of the probe is.

I am using this as an auxiliary fan for our Living room gas fireplace, that we use for supplementary living room heat in addition to our gas forced air (southern climate). This is a well designed fan unit for a fireplace, especially if low noise is your priority. I had one of the traditional fan units you can find here, but I always felt they were too loud, unless you dialed the fan speed down (like too loud to watch TV with the fan on, or having to boost TV volume to overcome the fan noise). This unit is relatively quiet even at full speed, but it doesn't exactly blast massive air out of your vents, at full speed (10). It does move air though, for sure, and will assist in making a more or less decorative fireplace actually heat a room. I imagine its a trade off (airflow vs noise). THe programming module is nice, but it did take a bit of programming to figure out how to set the module, so the fan would turn on/off with the fireplace. I used a small piece of metal hvac foil tape to secure the heat sensor to the roof of the fireplace bottom, and set the controller to turn on the fan at 90 degrees, and off when below 90. Programming the controller took longer than any other install steps, which were quite easy to complete. It has been reliably turning on the fan and ramping up to full speed when the fireplace heats up, and turns off when the fireplace has been off for awhile, and the fireplace box cools down below 90 degrees. No issues, and we've been using the fireplace now this winter quite a bit. The gradual ramp up/down speed control is a nice touch. I just placed the controller module and wiring below the fireplace box, but at some point maybe I'll run the controller wires through the sheetrock sidewall, and mount the controller to the wall, although it really isn't necessary to have to change or even access the digital controller ever once its set to your liking, to be honest. Overall I'm happy with this fan and I think it should holdup for a long time. Would go full 5 stars if it provided a bit more CFM at the same noise level, but understand it may be impossible to provide more airflow without it simply getting too loud.
