Huge improvement!!!
I saw some reviews on these Focal Alpha 50s, and when they went on sale because the new Alpha line is coming out, I grabbed a pair. These speakers are SO much better than my previous BX5 and LSR308 monitors. They truly have a depth and are incredibly pleasant to listen to a mix on. They are VERY heavy and have a lot of power. Buy them and enjoy!

Focal worst audio company in the world. Defective monitors and useless warranty!
I'm musician and producer. Focal is the worst audio company ever. They don't recognize the warranty at all. They don't even answer the emails or the customer service forms in their websites. I both 2 monitors. Both are so defective. One of them is not even sounding and the other sound really bad. They don't care about the warranty, they completely ignore my questions and claims. The worst choice ever. I highly recommend to get this sophisticated audio stuff from trustable companys like DYNAUDIO or GENELEC, the monitors and customer service are so much better. I hate Focal, I was warned by colleagues to not buy Focal but I took the risk, big mistake. I hope they broke soon.Edit 2020: after some claims and calls I should say that they took my monitors and they fix them, they took their time and i have to ship them by my own but they fix them with no charge and sent them back, and now they work right (they were originally refurbished)

this is a good studio speaker
Yes, this is a good studio speaker. I can hear all the details of voices on one of my home made music audio and video. Anyone who is serious doing quality music video or audio should consider using this Alpha 50.

I auditioned the Focal CMS line (which is wonderful, but not worth the extra money
Superb. Sounds clear, lively, balanced, uncolored. I auditioned the Focal CMS line (which is wonderful, but not worth the extra money, at least not for me). These Alphas blow away all the Adams, Tannoys and Genelecs I listened to.

I have been an avid audiophile for over 20 years and have listened to the best speakers for years
I have auditioned these extensively and A/B'd them against many other speakers in their price range at various music stores for months before I purchased a pair. I have been an avid audiophile for over 20 years and have listened to the best speakers for years, so I know what is good as far a quality and what isn't (at least for me). I've also worked in a top los Angeles recording studio as an assistant engineer.Although audiophile speakers are really like gloves (you have to try em' on/listen to them for a while before you buy), studio monitors are not exactly like that. Of course you have to audition them, and like what you hear; but they are tools used for 'diagnosis' of your mixes and/or mastering. They need to be pleasant enough to listen to for long periods and not be fatiguing ; yet contain all necessary audio information and details needed to better your mix. These are not 'prosumer' but professional studio monitors; these are the company's bottom of the line monitors which (IMHO) beat the pants off of so many other more expensive monitors, and anything in their price range.I would describe my Alpha 50s as extremely clear, detailed and not fatiguing. Bass is tight, never overpowering. Balanced across the audio spectrum and articulate is how I would summarize their sonic qualities. They feel like they are overbuilt, but only time will tell of this is true. These are large for 5" speakers, and might fit (with difficulty) on your desk, as is the case with me. The auto turn-off and turn-on is wonderful. Additional rca inputs and +6db input signal adjustment are welcome features. You can download the manual and read more from their website regarding additional details.Provided HPF and LPF crossovers work like a charm for most less than perfect nearfield monitor ing environments.I haven't had these for a long time yet; but I still feel confident in recommending these studio monitors without hesitation. They ARE more expensive, and Focal doesn't discount their products, which you must remember. At least in this case, you get what you pay for.

Really great
These things are great! My ears are a little messed up from many years of abusing them, so I needed something that would sound good at fairly low volume and these really seem to work well. I'm listening to some IDM type stuff right now averaging about 71db with peaks up to 75db and they sound really, really good in an untreated room. I was thinking I would need a subwoofer before I bought them, but now I'm not sure (I already have a 2.1 music system and studio headphones to check mixes on). I wanted something both inspiring and accurate and these do both for me.The power management works really well, never had them go to sleep on me at low listening levels, though I do occasionally need to crank the volume a bit to get them to wake up. No hiss or hum at all, perfectly quiet when on but not playing. I checked the standby power consumption with a kill-a-watt and it's unmeasurable, the kill-a-watt shows 0.0 watts. They do seem to be a lot bigger than other 5" monitors.I got them used, in like-new condition, from gc for half price, but now that I have them I would definitely buy again at full price if I had to.
