FisherSpace Pen Bullet Pen, Ballpoint, Brass, Matte Black, Black Ink, Gift Box

I wanted to get this pen because I saw it on an EDC video featuring Adam Savage, formerly of Mythbusters. He said he had one and it looked pretty cool, small, compact, reliable. It has not let me down yet, the ink isn't some fancy gel ink, it's a ball point pen but the main difference is that the cartridge is pressurized so it never skips it always writes and it will even write upside down. You can put this in your pocket and never know it's there. I've done this before with other standard pens and to be honest eventually they break and if that happens you get ink stains which ruin clothes. You don't need to worry about that with this pen. Plus it's has a metal body and has some weight to it so it feel sturdy. When you open it and put the top on the other end it becomes a full sized pen. I recommend this to anyone that uses a pen regularly and needs one on hand.

This is easily the most excited I've ever been to receive a pen. It's quite honestly even smaller than I expected. The length was right around what I expected it to be, but it is shockingly thin compared to how it looks in pictures. I didn't buy this pen because it can write in zero gravity, under water, upside down, through grease, and in extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), but I'd be lying if I said I didn't find it cool. What I bought it for was by far the form factor. You really do not feel this pen in your pocket. As far as build goes, it's solid. I'm not sure which metal (though I'm inclined to believe it's brass), but the whole body is metal and feels super sturdy without being heavy at all. Now, the meat and potatoes, how does it write? Well, I've been carrying Zebra pens for years and I'm glad to say this feels smoother and the thickness of the ink looks more pleasing. Unfortunately, it won't make you write any better if you're one of those people who nobody but yourself can read your handwriting (like I am). It's a little silly how much I absolutely love this pen, but I don't see myself buying another pen any time soon, unless I lose it somehow. That said, if I decide I miss clipping a pen to my shirt pocket, maybe I'll pick up one of their cap-o-matic pens and carry both!I've attached some size comparison images of this pen (closed and open) beside a Zebra F-402 pen, a standard Bic lighter, a tube of Carmex chap stick, and a Sandisk Extreme USB 3 flash drive.

If you want a completely, unfailingly reliable pen that is small enough to fit in your pocket, you are looking at the correct product. I actually purchased two, this matte black one (my favorite) that I keep with me throughout the day and a silver one that stays on my bedside.I've dropped both pens countless times with absolutely no ill effect. I've thrown them in the freezer for an hour and still written with them. Through the washer and dryer, still writes. The ink dries exceptionally fast. It has a good weight. It's very small, but when uncapped and recapped on the back, it is a full length pen, so as not awkward to write with. The only thing I have a SLIGHT issue with is, as other reviewers have said, the lack of clip or something to keep the pen from rolling around when you sit it down on a flat surface. These are awesome! I have known about the Fisher Space Pen for most of my life, and mostly as a trivia question. I've worked various jobs with varying dress codes. When my place of work switched from suit and tie to khakis and polo shirts, this left the perennial question as to where you put your pen. No problem, we had the obligatory lanyard for photo ID. When I left and became a contractor, I lost that photo ID.If anyone has watched the WKRP episode about the suits vs. the dungarees, I tend to side with the "dungarees" so when in my own employ I wear jeans. The problem with jeans is that there's no pen pocket, or so I thought. The problem is that most pens are made wrong. I found the Fisher "bullet" pen at the Fort Campbell BX and have been in love with it ever since.When closed, it's the perfect shape and size to fit in the bottom of the back pocket of jeans and other pants (trousers) with stitched-on pockets or hanging pockets with a flat (level) bottom. When opened, the cap fits snugly to make a solid full-length writing pen that's as good as any regular pen in feel and grip. The "writes in space" part is a bonus, but the ability to write in any position may be a big plus for some. The o-ring seal also keeps water out, so it makes a pretty handy "survival" pen to keep in the zipper pocket of your backpack; that's where my second one lives.

I've had my eyes on this style of pen for as long as I can remember, but never took the time or the money I would need to buy one. As an Eagle Scout and someone who likes to invest in durable, quality tools, this certainly qualifies.After reading various reviews on Amazon comparing the different kinds of Fisher Space pens, I feel confident that I made the right choice. It's very short and slim when compacted and is not much longer than a tube of chapstick- maybe an inch longer. Extended (the cap is placed on the back to make it pen-sized) it looks like an ordinary pen and writes like a champ. I've been using it for a week or two now, and it hasn't failed me yet.
