Mr. Gasket 142 Differential Rear End Gasket for Ford 8.8"

Expensive compared to other gaskets, but what a very nice gasket. I installed this on my 98 F150 (4.6 liter, 8.8 rear gear) and could not have been happier with the outcome.When performing the installation, if your housing surface is clean and there are no large gouges, and if your cover is not bent or has dimples in the flange surface, then no, you should not need any sealant. Following a minor rear-end rebuild, I made sure the housing surface was nice and clean and installed the gasket with a new cover (they're pretty cheap, I highly recommend  CSI 1312 Steel Differential Cover, Ford 8.8" ring gear ). I tightened all of the bolts to the maximum recommended torque specification (30 ft-lb). Have driven thousands of miles since the installation with no leaks whatsoever. However, I do not have a limited slip differential, so I cannot confirm if the friction modification additives would have changed the outcome.

I didn’t have to wait to drive once I installed it. I did place some sealant for extra protection, but it’s not necessary. I’m writing this review a month later and there isn’t any leaks.

I have used this brand of differential rear end gasket before and fits PERFECTLY on a 1998 Ford Explorer with a 10 bolt cover. I apply a film coat of Permatex 81182, black RTV and put the cover back on and tighten the bolts for a perfect fit. I have never had any problems, no leaks, no noises, just a smooth glide ride by using quality auto products as part of regular maintenance.

Used this in a 4x4 explorer and it had not leaked or show any abnormal signs of leakage after 1k miles of driving. So far so good

Purchased this gasket again when servicing rear axle for second time. The first gasket appeared as if it would have lasted the life of the vehicle. Gasket is made well and does not leak at all.
