A Decent, Modern Ghost Movie
This is a decent modern ghost movie. By "modern," I mean you start off not knowing who the ghosts are. The ghosts are benevolent. And then the movie gives reasonable twists.Daniel Craig, Rachel Weicz, and Naomi Judd all star in it but frankly, their roles don't allow for great acting. They're not necessary for this film. But they all do a decent job.In short, you've seen this ghost movie before... you've seen Dream House in several other ghost movies. It doesn't do anything new with the genre. But it's watchable, and, being under 90 minutes long, it's bearable in length too. Not a Must-See movie but you won't regret watching it if you decide to.

Great 1st half but then change things up and sort of ruin story
Will (Daniel Craig) retires from his job, thinks about writing a book and then finds out the house that he moved into was the site of a grisly murder. He decides to investigate which leads him down a rabbit hole. The movie begins like a traditional domestic story until Will finds some teenagers in his basement commemorating the anniversary of the murders. Then a mysterious man appears in his backyard. He finds the books of one of the murdered kids and more. On top of it he finds out that the man responsible Peter Ward is still at large. This all does an effective job building up the tension. The twist is that the more he digs the more he learns about his own past. The first half of the movie is great as it appears to be a psychological thriller. Then in the last part they throw in a conventional crime story and ruin everything. The writers would have been much better off just focusing upon Will, but I guess they couldn’t think about how to finish his story and sort of ruined things as a result.C

"Disturbing" does NOT equal scary!
Remember the two creepy little ghost girls in "The Shining?" They were scary because they were so creepy! But in a normal film, showing two cute little girls whose lives are in danger is more DISTURBING than anything else. In this supposedly scary film, a writer named Will Atenton (Daniel Craig) moves into his "dream house" with his beautiful wife Libby (Rachel Weisz) and their two beautiful young children, Trish (Taylor Geare) and Dee Dee (Claire Geare). It's seeing these two cute little girls threatened which ruins any enjoyment I may have otherwise had in watching this film. Naomi Watts plays a neighbor woman who is also involved in this whole disturbing plot.

So slow
Solid acting but my lord is the pace slow in this film. Nothing happens for the first 45 minutes or so and by that time, I just couldn't wait to be done with the freaking thing. The cast tries but the story just isn't there.

Really enjoyed
I really enjoyed this movie. It was a really good story with interesting twists. I don't want to go into details and spoil the surprises. Just watch carefully and enjoy. The actors are all great, well acted. This movie is a love story, a mystery, a psychological suspense/ thriller, a bit of a ghost story. The more I think about it the more I like it. I never saw the trailer, which I understand gives away one of the main twists, so don't watch it. PG-13 good rating, certainly not for younger than that age. Mostly for violence, subject matter (with the murders) and language. Also has a little suggestive sex scene with the husband and wife, she sits atop his prone body on bed and they giggle and such as a married couple may do, so up to you if that would bother you for your kid to see. I would think not a big deal for a 14 year old (certainly less suggestive than any of the teen vampire/werewolf movies).

A good psychological thriller - pot+action+good performances.
I was surprised and pleased to discover that Daniel Craig is actually a fine actor. It's amazing how playing Bond can turn a three dimensional human into a 2D cutout. This is worth watching, 5 stars because it completely succeeds at being exactly the kind of movie it purports to be; not the best of most memorable film, but an engaging ride through a twisty plot.

Not too impressed!
Three well-known names, Daniel Craig leading the cast, but I was not too impressed with the story, and as someone mentioned, it's for renting not having. However, as we are in the habit of buying to keep, it will be in the collection for a while to come. As a story with a supernatural element, it's disappointing and certainly not in the class of The Awakening or The Woman in Black. There's no atmosphere, no darkness ........I suppose it's okay for one viewing, perhaps it should have been a thriller with no winding sheet in sight, as it is it's neither fish nor foul.

Meh
The acting was dreadful in this movie! And although there were some quite clever twists and turns in the script I was very bored with it much of the time. As another review here said it was a missed opportunity. With better scripting it could have worked well but the dialogue is poor and the film jumps around so much it just feels like a desperate attempt to hold your attention and destruct you from the fact that it's all a bit meh

GOOD
Not what I expected and is enjoyable could have been a better storyline throughout which would have made this an even better film than it was. Not a hard film to work out the plot early on though. I would also say it was not that scary but that is just my opinion.

not bad
As thrillers go a psychological thriller a man needs to move on in his life but he can't till he's worked out a puzzle in his past life will atenton (Craig) moves. In to house with family his dream home turns out to be a nightmare.my DVD box came smashed down one side but think that was done in the post.
