ANOTHER FINE SERIES WITH IMPORTANT ISSUES RAISED
Again an insightful portrayal of life at the top, pressures in plenty as daily challenges confront. Heading a strong cast is Tea Leoni as America's Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord. For twenty episodes she attempts a fine balancing act between triumph and disaster - all the while trying to ensure she does not sell herself short as a wife and a mum.Matters arising? Ever-more aggressive white supremacists, global warming, human trafficking, drug smuggling, sweatshop labour, honour killing, arranged marriages, big companies trying to dictate policy. The show's strength is that McCord is no wonderwoman - her foreign counterparts often as wily as she, arguments valid on both sides. It is good to see here America admitting how sometimes in the past they got it wrong, stances taken then directly responsible for hostile attitudes now. How best to put such matters right, create friends out of former enemies?Strong scripts. As well as highly disturbing issues, much welcome relief - much of it provided by her charismatic team of advisers. Also enjoyed are the family scenes. (By the way, it is good to see husband Henry more integrated, he now the White House consultant on ethical matters.)Included here is the series' hundredth episode - it a cracker, containing a development unthinkable.Three actual former Secretaries of State are fans of the show and put in guest appearances. This is surely a sign that much rings true. If it does so for them, then it should for viewers.Conrad Dalton's Presidency is nearing its end. No prizes for guessing who his successor may be.

Disappointing.
Having watched this from the beginning I found season4 okay. This season most episode's have been positively boring, with more talking than action. I've read the final season will only have 10 episode's so will probably give it a miss. Such a shame as up until last season it was really good.

Entertaining
After buying the boxed set for the first four seasons, which was very good value, we purchased this penultimate series. Much in the same vein, with the added topic of her presidential campaign kick-off.Very entertaining but hopefully not like the real thing.

Mislabelled as working in EU region
Label indicates this is for region 2 but clearly a mix up in production as only works with US settings on your DVD Player . Note the disc is even printed as being for EU region but isn’t.Series 5 in the box set is also wrong for the same reasons

Great Season 5
Really liked the whole series. Couldn’t wait for it to come out on Prime. It’s really gripping and every season deals with the here and now.
