More .45-70 Springfields, 1873-1893: The Uncommon, the Scarce & the Rare

Dick Hosmer has done a wonderful job in presenting to the novice and experienced collector alike, detailed descriptions of a number of rare and experimental arms produced by the Springfield Armory during the American “Indian War” period. A number of publications exist describing the standard models of the “trapdoor Springfield” rifles, cadet rifles and carbines. Mr. Hosmer has gone a significant step farther and made available a relatively low cost book that presents meaningful information on the no so common trapdoor rifles. To the novice collector, this is an excellent source of information on that rifle or carbine that they “may luckily run into”. For the more advanced collector, the book provides details to help authenticate the scarce arm that may be their next purchase. Excellent logical writing, outstanding photographs, well compiled summary tables, serial numbers of known arms, historic detail, rare accessories and years and years worth of practical knowledge. This book has it all for a price that anyone can afford.

Good book

This is a very good book that provides history and technical information on rare versions of rifles built at the Springfield Armory between 1873 and 1893. The photos are sharp and clear. It was an entertaining read and has now joined the team of reference books in my gun show "kit".

Fantastic reference book on 45-70 rifles. Not to be missed. Richard Hosmer is one of the world authorities on these guns and writes in a very clear and easy to understand style. Pictures are very well done.

Amazingly well and detailed written book. Very easy to read and follow. Lost of pictures, and examples of uncommon, scarce, and rare springfield rifles. Highly recommended book for all collectors!!!!!

It has good basic knowledge for a beginner. Not for the advance collector.
