Fast paced and fun
I fell in love with the premise of this book before I even turned a page and it absolutely lived up to my expectations. It's ludicrous, hilarious and a whole lot of fun.Laura Barnard writes the kind of stuff I love to read - potty-mouthed heroines and steamy sex scenes. Uh huh. Dopey Women lays it on thick and juicy. Sadie is a terrific lead character - smart, caring but not immune to the occasional act of stupidity. She's supported by a fun cast of misfits, each endearing in their own way and tending towards foolishness on a slightly more regular basis. Dopey Women also include my favourite hero - the anti-hero - the one Sadie is not supposed to like but simply cannot resist. I love those bad boys. The story is fast-paced and hard to put down - riddled with twists and turns you won't see coming. I loved it and I can't wait to read more of Laura's work.

Loved it!
Oh wow, I loved this book. The plot was not only unique, it stayed on point, never lost focused, and it was surprising. I loved all the characters, their struggles and just connecting with each one on a emotional level. I never knew I could feel so much for fictional characters as I have with these woman. Each struggle, heart break, happiness, and joy, I felt.I was sad when this was over, but fulfilled. For me I felt that there where no lose ends, or questions unanswered. The road to rebuild was touching, but the way it was written, I couldn't stop laughing. Witty, fun, and consent I was never bored. Throw in a sexy detective, that is always around the corner, and you have the perfect mix for an out-of-this-world romcom. There are very few books that I can read in one sitting, and this was one of them. To me the ability to write a world so captivating that you are lost with in it's pages, is pure magic. To make me laugh out loud, will that pure witch craft.I would like to thank Laura Barnard giving my the opportunity to read this astonishing work of art.Happy Reading-Emily

Delightful characters!
This is a story that I didnβt really expect! It is fun and engaging with delightful characters. I really never knew what was going on between Sadie and Harry. I know I had wishful thinking but that doesnβt always work with a book. This is chock full of wonderful characters! I loved each of them for different reasons. Her βgal palβ group has the most dynamics in it. Plus a wide range of ages which make them interesting. Then there is the Detective along with the drug dealers. I donβt want to forget Sam. He is a nice surprise and helps fill in Sadies backstory. Then there is the lady of the hour Sadie. She is looking for one thing which leads to a boatload of trouble then she finds something else.Overall this story is great! I could easily listen to it over and Over. I did listen to this on audio. Mandy Williams is the narrator. She is a first time listen for me and she does wonderful.

Good concept!
Sadie has worked her way up from living on the streets, and for the past ten years has worked an honest job in order to provide for herself. When her entire department is laid off, while although she freaks out, feels sure that she will bounce back, especially after the way she left after the layoff. Months later, nobody from her department has found other work, and they are all drowning in bills and bad luck. From their bad luck stems an idea to get their bills paid and back on their feet as a group; growing and selling drugs. Through some trials and tribulations, the group eventually gets on their feet and start making a profit, but between the local drug dealer finding out about them in addition to Sadie attracting local cop Harry, the group is doomed from the start. While the story was comical in some parts, it felt like it drug on and got a little redundant and confusing and while the concept was good, to me it fell a little short.I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Dopey Women
What a ride! I didnβt know what to expect from one minute to the next. When Sadie and the girls in her department are laid off from their job and they canβt find another job, they donβt know what they will do for money. But, when one of the women confesses she has cancer and wants to try marijuana, an idea is set into motion. They will make pot brownies to sell to the other patients going through chemo. Once they start selling, all sorts of craziness starts happening. But, there is one speck of hope, a police officer who canβt seem to get Sadie out of his mind. He will even risk his own life and career to protect her. This book was serious, funny and romantic all rolled up in one entertaining story. I didnβt want it to end. I could easily see it being made into a tv show. I would say movie, but I wouldnβt want to watch for just a few hours, I want to keep watching the drama unfold for months at a time. If youβre looking for something a little bit different, be sure to pick up this book.

Dopey Women
Dopey Women by Laura Barnard is a standalone romance and is Sadie and Harryβs story.Dopey Women is like no other book of fiction that I have read before. I had no idea what this title meant but I found out and it makes complete sense now.Sadie along with several of her co-workers have lost their jobs and they have no-where to turn to. Sadie comes up with the idea to sell marijuana to ladies that are going through chemo. There are some LOL moments but also the seriousness of selling drugs. They now have a detective that is suspicious along with angry drug dealers. Harry is the detective and she has a love/hate relationship with him. Even at the end of the book it seems that she is always willing to think the worst of Harry. Through some twists and turns there is an HEA.I loved this original storyline. At least it was original for me. This book held my attention from beginning to the end. I look forward to reading more from this author. 4.5 stars.

LOVE IT!!
Another winner from the hilarious and lovely Laura Barnard ( I can say that as I've met her!) This will have you laughing out loud from the first chapter right to the end and it is a story which you will find hard to put down! I won't give anything away but if you've read Laura's previous books then you'll appreciate her humor and great writing( I loved 'Harry's Diary' excerpts-giving a slight male POV as the books from's Sadie POV). Of course once I got to the end...I wanted more!!

Made me laugh out loud :)
I love Laura Barnard. I've read another couple of her books (the others being the debt and the doormat, followed by the sequel the baby and the bride) and absolutely love her style. She has such a great style of writing that makes the story so easy to read and I didn't want to put them down, which to me is a sign of a very good book :).As well as a serious side to her leading characters, there's also humour which made me laugh out loud.

Not so sure about this book. It took a while to get in to and although it had funny moments, I found it hard to relate to. Seemed pretty far fetched and there wasn't enough of the romance side of it for me.
