The B-9 is fully powered and better than ever!
The B-9 robot has been celebrated in many different forms through the years. Up until now, it's been my opinion that Trendmasters held the trophy for the best developed toy robot from this series, based on design and electronic features. But like all champions, they are set up to be knocked down. As of now, Diamond Select holds the title as "Best B-9 robot" in toy history. It's an excellent piece in every way. It goes without saying Diamond Select took the next step from Trendmasters and added the sequenced lights which are gorgeous. It really nails the magical aspects of the robot that bring him to life. They not only did that for the front section, but did so amazingly for the head piece as well. For added love they allow the robot to run with the sequence lights without having to activate his speaking phrases. Clearly Zach and company came to this project with lots of love and admiration for the show. One function not mentioned in the instructions and what may just be a happy accident is, if you hold the green button down and wait for the first phrase to start, it will then play all of them and then turn off. A pretty neat feature never mention! The claws can also be posed open or closed and the head piece can be manually moved up or pushed down but just slightly. The B9 also can be manually swiveled 360 at the waist area. The treads do have wheels but no wind up feature like the Trendmaster (no biggie). The B9 comes already equipped with batteries (3 triple A's). He stands roughly ten inches tall and is quite impressive in person. I have read some concern about the proportions from the top half seated on the lower leg section. From pictures I can see where it seems to be off, but honestly when you get it in person, it all looks completely in scale. I really think it's more an optical illusion like so many figures and toys that can't always be justified fully in photos or video. This is certainly one of those occasions. This is a definite must-have for any serious LIS fan. I absolutely love it.

Switch on bottom of Robot On/Off/Play
There is a small switch on the bottom of the robot tred section . This switch is really a Demo Mode / Off / Play Switch . In Demo Mode , only the phrase " Danger , Danger , Will Robinson will play . Set the switch to " Play " and all the lights function continually and the voice box will blink in sync to the voice while this mode is activated . One activates the speaking via a square green button on the side of the robots middle section . The Off setting turns the entire unit completely off . No Demo or Play Mode will work . There are good instructions inside the box , under the tread assembly . I suspect people are hearing only the 1 Demo phrase and none of the others as listed on the box because of this "hidden" switch. One does not find out about this switch until it is out of the box and are possibly returning the unit as defective . Some people don't like taking theei collectables out of the original box or opening it . It's just a heads up here about the operation of the unit . The robot is a good item / fun to see and to listen to , but the switch could cause one to think it is not functioning properly until one reads the short instruction sheet enclosed .

Good toy replica of the original series B-9 Robot
When my Diamond Select Toys Lost in Space B-9 Robot replica arrived I was surprised how big it is at 11 inches tall. I think given the detail and light effects it's a good size replica. The toy is made in China. No surprise there. On the left side of the display box is a hole to put your finger inside the box to press a red button to activate the lights and sounds. The robot comes in "TRY" mode which is a switch position located on the bottom of the robot. The red button works fine but it can stick a bit if you press it near the front rather than towards the back end of the button. I think this is just because the quality of the components are not that good. Before I took it out of the box, I pressed the button and nothing happened. The box had its three factory seal stickers on the flap so I figured it was not tampered with. I figured maybe the batteries were dead. I opened the box and took the B-9 replica out of its box. There is a door under the robot secured by a screw that holds three batteries. The box says the robot includes "X 3 Batteries Included 1.5V AA Size". Actually the robot uses 3 AAA batteries. The batteries that came with the robot were dead on arrival. I replaced them with 3 AAA Energizer batteries. There are three switch positions: TRY, OFF, and PLAY. The TRY position plays, "Danger! Danger, Will Robinson!" when you press the button located on the robot's left side (facing the robot). In TRY mode, the robot lights up not flashing, but constant lights while it says the words. The OFF position does not turn off the robot, it just puts the robot in same as PLAY mode. This is probably because the circuitry is not correct. The PLAY mode plays the full list of classic phrases from the original TV series, with blinking lights, and the robot's voice light is synchronized to the words spoken. I think the switch is either not correctly wired or possibly a design flaw in the switch selector. But it's not a big deal since as long as it plays all the phrases and lights up, I don't see it as a problem. Perhaps other buyers of this robot don't have this problem with the "OFF" position. It might just be a production defect, rather than a design defect. When I inspected the robot, I noticed a little bit of the black paint lightly smudged where the robots front lower base / tracks are located and some light streaks of black paint on the robot's left side of its lower base / tracks. I was able to clean the smudge with a jewelers cloth and some light polish. These kinds of imperfections are probably common in many of the units produced and it was not a big deal even if I had left it as it was. But now it looks perfect. Another feature is when the robot is left in its "PLAY" position, it flashes its lights for several minutes and then goes into sleep mode if you don't press its red button to play sounds. That's good because it will save on battery life and you don't really need to mess around with the switch underneath once you put it in PLAY mode. I would have given it five stars had it not come with dead batteries, the OFF switch position doesn't turn the robot really off all the way -- not just sleep mode, and there was a little bit of black paint streak/smudge near the robot's base. Overall, I really like this B-9 toy replica. 06-23-15 UPDATE: After my original product review was written, I left the new Energizer batteries in the B-9 Robot. As I noted in my review, the OFF switch setting does not work. Selecting the OFF position puts the robot in the same mode as the PLAY position. As I noted in my original review, after several minutes, the robot's lights will turn off and the robot appears to be in a sleep mode. When I put the robot back in its box and stored away since my last review, I left the 3 AAA new Energizer batteries inside the robot, and left the robot in the OFF position, then several days later I took the robot out of the box and the robot didn't work. It turned out to be batteries drained dead. If you get one of these with the OFF switch defect, you will need to remove the batteries, if you don't, the batteries will be drained very quickly. Another comment about the robot, the circular part below the two antennas is a clear plastic part rather than the silver colored part as in the original B-9. Also, the robot's neck allows the head to be raised and lowered just like the original B-9.

Simply OUTSTANDING!!!
The fit, feel, finish of the product is just like the robot you see on TV. Has three modes. First mode has the classic danger danger Will Robinson with flashing lights while speaking. Second mode as you push a green button, which is where the robots power pack was, and it has many many saying that it cycles through. Lights then flash for something like five minutes, then they shut down. Third mode is the lights just flash for five minutes without the saying. In my case I have it I have it in my office and I want to watch the lights flashing, but don’t want to disturb my coworkers with the sayings. Lights shut down after five minutes. Arms are adjustable from the classic place where they were on the robot to waving around. Product truly exceeded by expectations!

Awesome Robot!
If you're a fan of this robot from the show when you were a kid, or even now...then you will want this replica. They've created the closest thing (so far), in a compact size, that meets the original version. The arms however, should extend forward, instead of protruding from the sides. Other than that, this thing is awesome. The voice light is in sync, they're using LEDs in the bubble and in the chest barrel, and it has several quips that may or may not have been taken from the show. I would have preferred a few of the sarcastic responses that made this robot so special, but nonetheless, if I would have had this back in the 60's when I was a kid, it would have been at the top of my toy collection. The proportions of this robot far exceed other replicas, as some have distorted sections that don't come close to the original. This one does. Now if it just had the electric charge from the claws, and could answer my internet searching with that familiar voice................

He's SO nice, you might want to get two... one to show off and one to keep in the box..!
A Great, fantastic model of the B9 (Robbie the Robot). Well made and you can arrange his arms and claws. At first, he wouldn't speak but that was due to old batteries (bad connections). Has a "test-me" mode and a "play-mode" where he turns into quite the chatter-box, whilst lighting up his chest as he speaks. Note: you must animate him, as he really doesn't move about at all (he can roll manually). But, you can arrange his arms and claws. I don't suggest that you move his head all that much, as it's "extremely" limited and you might damage the wires and such that make his head blink (several colours, about it). This IS a fantastic toy, for adult fans of the show. I wouldn't recommend it for kids but, they wouldn't even understand, just what he represents. He does speak, a great many phrases from the show and can be a lot of fun. I've already shared video's of him saying many. Very bright lights but I wish, the sound were a bit louder but, it's a GREAT collectors version that is great fun. Here, in my pic... he's concurred my Candy Machine and is celebrating his victory! Such Fun..! Update: The B-9's supplied batteries could well be very low when you get him. Be certain to put in 3 new AAA batteries. He will be very bright, loud and clear. If, he should stutter or not finish a phrase, it's time for new batteries. Re-chargeable batteries won't do. The circuitry and audio amplifier need as much power as possible, for him to perform his best. He's great fun..!
