Doctor's Detox Diet The Ultimate Weight Loss Prescription

Somehow worse than the average "detox diet" book
I practice yoga, take my turmeric supplements, have consumed kombucha more than a few times, and eat plant-based. However, I still draw the line between research-based nutrition and health guidelines and the woo woo trends that are so common these days I think the average person actually does believe that a hot yoga class is primarily beneficial bc it "sweats out toxins" (and not bc the heat raises your heart rate, and also makes your muscles more flexible). So given all that, shame on me, I guess, for even buying this book. I just read DOCTORS detox diet and thought maybe it offered something different, some kind of long term sustainable eating plan that was based in science and would help some of my vague nagging health issues. The author's personal story is interesting, let's say, but she proposes to reinvent the wheel, and they key to all of it? "Toxins". And eating very specific recipes with herbs and spices that would fundamentally change the way your liver and kidneys work. It's preposterous, it's not a realistic diet to follow, and I've seen no peer-reviewed MDs backing this 'revolutionary' change to the weight discussion. Don't buy this book.

Love her take on the SKILL systems read the book to find out what that is
I really liked this book. I like her approach of making major systems in the body healthy and with that will come weight loss. I cannot believe that the smoothies really were enough for me along with my 2 snacks. Tip: you don't have to follow the dinner menus verbatim. I did not like all of the them so I chose the ones I liked and made those more often. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the website that will be needed to continue the meals is not up and running. Perhaps they put out the book a bit prematurely. I highly recommend this book!

Very Interesting Book
I have read many diet books and this was the only one that did not seem like a gimic that caught my attention and kept it. I enjoy knowing why things work and how they work when I use them. I lost 10lbs in 2 weeks without feeling hungry and am still following the guidelines (very easily I might add). I no longer have heartburn, bloating or that "I've eaten too much" feeling. Though I would rate the book 5 stars, I gave it 4 stars because the website is not fully set up yet. I look forward to any further books by the same author.

It looked like a good idea at first...but trying to follow the recipes in this book for the first two weeks has brought everything else in this book into question across the board. Her recipes leave out vital details and instructions so that almost every recipe has to be "rescued" in some way to make it work. She has poor comprehension of how to select foods that go together for basic appeal including variety in color, texture and even nutritional balance. One meal suggestion actually combines a turkey noodle casserole containing whole wheat noodles and carrots WITH smashed potatoes AND a beet/carrot medley AND corn on the cob. That's a lot of carbs for one meal.If you're an experienced cook with a good knowledge of nutrition you'll find this book frustrating but be able to make it work. If you're an inexperienced cook who doesn't have a well stocked spice rack and familiarity with such items as kasha, soba noodles and Shiitake mushrooms, you'll find this process difficult and expensive.

Great book with lots of good recipes
I was looking for a healthy way to detox without taking all the supplements that come in some of the products and found it in this one. The book comes with lots of ideas and good recipes that can be integrated on a daily basis. I have added it to my top 10 of books!

Not a life style change... hard to do or want to do.... Did not try, does not seem easy or doable...

Good read
I ordinarily do not buy any book with the word diet in it. As a nutritional professional with a PhD myself, I pretty much have a handle on my diet. Her credentials, registered dietitian and physician intrigued me and I was not disappointed. I like this book and found many of her ideas in line with my practice and she gave me more science on why we should eat more plants and less chemicals. This is anything BUT, just another diet book.

Love the diet and the recipe suggestions. This book has triggered a real lifestyle change that we think we can finally maintain. Only problem is the website with additional recipes never seems to have gotten off the ground. Still, it's a great book!
