Not quite as thick as described.
I own several Moras and each in its own way is an excellent knife and all are exceptional values. I can say the same for this model. However, the original description is not accurate. It was said that the thickness of the blade is 2.5 mm--it is not--it is about 2 mm. That's not a bad thing necessarily, but if you are expecting a medium to heavy-duty outdoorsy, bushcrafty kind of knife you might be disappointed. This is more suited, in my opinion, to kitchen-type chores. Still it is a fine product, with a rather large, very comfortable, high-friction handle, nicely ground and polished blade, (quite sharp) and the usual plastic sheath (tho this sheath has a leather belt loop riveted to it). For what I might do with it, it's great. Just don't expect the 2.5 mm thickness and you can't go wrong with this Mora. After owning this item for awhile now, I want to update my opinion of it and its little sister (Model 748, 5 3/4"). The 749 is simply an elegant, beautiful knife, with its bowie-like blade and wonderfully ergonomic handle. The 748 is a more usual clip blade, but same beauty and handle. I don't know much about high-end kitchen knives, but I would bet that they cost a lot more than these Moras and likely would not have the quality of construction. At 20-some dollars apiece, they can't be beat.

It’s NOT A MACHETE!!!
No, it’s not a battle ready blade you would go fight off Longshanks’ men at arms with. Nor is it for cutting trails through youpons, it won’t successfully do it. However, there is nothing weak or wrong with this knife; the problem is too many people have been watching Survivor Man, or what-have-you and trying to use knives for something they’re not designed to do. A knife is for cutting, particularly one with a fine edge like this one. It blows my mind to see guys saying such as “oh but it was destroyed after only hacking through two 1.5” thick branches...” NO JOKE BRO.! That is not what a sabre ground edge is for. It’s not what a knife is for, period. If you want a machete, go to a surplus store and spend the whole 12 bucks on a cheap machete. I live the deep south of the US, I’ve been in the woods hunting, fishing and camping since I could walk. The first things every kid in the country learns about proper use of a knife is that you don’t cut paper with them and you don’t hack with them. It’s not a saw, not an axe, it’s a knife. Use it as such, and this inexpensive, but well made gem can last a lifetime. And knock it off with the “paper test” and learn how to actually gauge sharpness!

Works great as an all-around kitchen knife; outstanding value
Though this 8.1 inch knife is advertised as an outdoor knife, it makes an excellent indoor kitchen knife. It comes extremely sharp and effortlessly cuts through meat and vegetables, making a joy out of what I consider normally a pretty mundane task. The knife is thick enough to be sturdy, thin enough to make easy cuts, and long enough to slice through a whole ham or pot roast. The clip point seems more at home in an outdoor or fighting knife, but enables the knife to make precision cuts, such as when removing small pieces of fat from meat. I bought this knife as a gift for my dad, who does commercial-grade BBQ, along with a 5.8 inch and 3.6 Mora knife. The idea was that he could use the big 8.1 inch for slicing through briskets and rib racks, and the other two for smaller work like trimming fat, but he prefers this one above both the others because he is still able to do precision work with it. He now uses the 8.1 inch knife almost exclusively over all his other knives. At a current Amazon price of around $27, this is an absolute steal for a razor-sharp, European-made knife. A chef's knife of equivalent quality and utility will cost you at least $100. I promise you will not regret buying this knife!

let us address what many of us knife aficionados already know--Mora is easily the most divisive
This is the case of the strangest knife I have ever known: The Mora Allround Multi-Purpose Fixed Blade. First off, let us address what many of us knife aficionados already know--Mora is easily the most divisive, even controversial knife maker out there. There simply is no more polarizing knife brand anywhere. People love 'em, people HATE 'em and some, well, they just don't get 'em. Me, I get 'em just fine . . . except for this particular model, that is. The extreme Scandinavian edge is way too wafer thin to perform any medium to medium-heavy batoning. While, like all Mora knifes, this bad boy comes right out of the box screamingly, demonically razor sharp, at 8 inches, the blade is way too long to field dress anything smaller than a wild boar (and even then, it may be too long). The spine has no adequate sharp right angle to strike a fire rod off of. While the handle is nice and properly sticky-grippy and has a nice belly and finger guard that feel awesome in your hand, if you're anything like me, your tendency is going to be to choke up on this beast to more effectively carve, slice gouge and notch. Not recommended, hombres! One perilous slip and you're sitting between the poor old lady throwing up in bucket and a hapless contractor with a pneumatic nail in his temple at the emergency room. It's just really hard to get a satisfying purchase in your hand when your impulse is to choke up on this thing. Speaking of notching, the clip point is too extreme to expect to gouge through any wood without possibly breaking the tip off, although the very point of the tip is exquisitely sharp. So, why the four stars then? Because impractical (and even kinda ugly) as it may well be, it is still an amazing knife capable of a variety of on-property/household applications. I've thus far used it for light duty batoning to make tinder; cutting paracord, tarred twine and even smaller gauged rope; making feather sticks (little bit of a learning curve with this knife, but the final results are spectacular!) and even some medium duty pruning. Bushcrafting? Afraid not. Camp and trail or hiking? Maybe, but there are much more appropriate choices. Bugout bag? Nah, way too long and probably not versatile enough. Self defense? Sure, I suppose, but let's be clear here: by NO MEANS is this designed and/or marketed as a fighting/tactical knife. Again it is horrifically sharp, but in the hands of a schmuck, it can really cause some self-inflicted injuries. You have been warned! As is the case with nearly all other Mora knife sheaths, except for the Bushcraft Survival line, the sheath that comes with this model is purely utilitarian and frankly, very unimaginative. It's actually rather ugly and silly looking, but it does secure the knife fairly well with only minimal rattle. It's does have a nice gimped thumb notch for quick and easy removal and the belt attachment is certainly adequate. There's actually a six-inch version of this beast that could possibly warrant an entirely new and different product user review. It's possible that model is less unwieldy and more efficient and a genuinely "allround, multi-purpose" knife. This 8" version is the one that own, though, and that's the one I'm critiquing. All in all, a very interesting and fun, if challenging and limited knife. Not a home run by any means, but a solid triple, to be sure.

Hg B

This is a lot of blade for the money!!!! It’s hair shaving sharp out of box and will slice and cut perfectly. Will out do knives that cost 10X the cost. It’s thinner but razor sharp. Extremely light weight, I doubt it’ll be a great chopper.

Una maravilla a un precio más que decente. Buen balance, buen acero, buen perfil de afilado, buen agarre. Es mi cuarto Mora y sospecho que no será el último. Completamente recomendable.
