Warning! Wash separately or everything will get fuzz on it.
These shed lint and fibers like crazy!! I had to scoop huge chunks out of the washing machine. Another reviewer claimed they damaged her machine, but that didn't happen to me. And then in the dryer I stopped it periodically to clear the lint filter and had to scoop big chunks from the filter a couple times before done drying. I'm not exaggerating when I say BIG chunks. They were like large baseballs. Posting a picture so you can see what I mean. Also, when they arrived in the mail, they had a strong musty burlap sack smell, so no way I was going to put them on my table where my family dines without washing them first. I gave them two stars, because they don't wrinkle in the wash, are nice and thick, and the smell is gone now, so I think I can still use them. But had to knock a few stars off due to the shedding and the fringe got ratty looking from washing. I plan to cut the fringe off and reinforce the edges on my sewing machine. Also will wash them separately for a while until they are done shedding.

Dangerous shedding of fibers/lint
UPDATE: I do not recommend these placemats at all. The volume of fiber they shed is potentially hazardous. We pulled wads of lint the size of softballs from our washer and from our dryer, just like some of the pictures posted by others here. Shortly after washing/drying them for use, our dryer started making a grinding noise, like the motor wasn’t right. It’s only a couple years old, so we called the manufacturer’s service rep to inspect it. Sure enough, there was another wad of fibers from these placemats that had gotten caught in the belt, and was causing an imbalance, an the related noise/degradation in performance. At the suggestion of the appliance serviceman, we took our leaf blower and connected it to the dryer exhaust hose to blow more lint out of that, through the lint vent on the outside of our house. So much lint came out that way bc the vent was totally blocked. My husband cleans this out every 2-3 months, and we keep our dryer lint trap cleaned after every use. The external vent has never been clogged like that, and this is a fire hazard. We are going to use these until they get stained, and they will go in the trash. I won’t purchase from this vendor again - awful quality.Like some other reviewers, I had crazy fibers/lint shedding that was absurd - multiple huge handfuls in both the washer and dryer, and the fringe didn’t look great after washing and drying. No bad smell, but these seem awfully poor quality for the price.

All different sizes.
I purchased the green tassel placemats and am now in the process of returning them. They look nice and the fabric is sturdy, but not a single one was remotely the same size. My included photo is of the biggest placemat and the smallest. Complete disappointment. Save your time and move on.

Wash gently. They shed HORRIBLY
I would give this a four stars or five stars if we’re going off the look. However, when I washed them there was tons of fuzz in my washer and my dryer. I washed them twice and each time there’s tons of fuzz from them shedding (at the tassels I assume). The rest of the place mats stayed in tact and didn’t fall apart and you wouldn’t be able to tell that the shed so much by looking at them. My lint trap was so full of the lent and particles from it shedding I thought we had forgot the empty it prior but upon the second wash I realized that wasn’t the case. If you don’t dry them immediately they smell horrible. They still look nice and I recommend hand washing them.

Warning: Protect your washing machine. Before first washing, run through dryer to remove lint.
i love these placemats and have bought several sets in multiple colors and have used them daily for years. I just want to warn potential buyers that especially when they are new, they have lots of lint in them, which might foul up your washing machine. I washed a couple of new sets their first time, and they clogged my relatively new washing machine's drain pump with lint and cost me a $180 repair call. On receipt of my next couple of sets, I got wise and soaked them in a bucket and ran them through the dryer before giving them their first machine wash. That dry cycle removed a TON of lint from them, and they gave my washing machine no trouble thereafter. I soaked them in vinegar water, by the way.

Soak it first before first wash, and it will all be fine!
I took to heart what many reviewers have stated and first soaked my table runner in the bathtub, then put in dryer to remove extra lint. So when I actually washed it on delicate per the wash instructions, I had no problem with extra fuzz in my washing machine. Yay! I did also use fabric softener and ironed it - came out really nice and soft. And, per other reviews, I was prepared for it to shrink a bit - which it did, about 3 inches.I’d say the color is more of a forest green - it is described as “Olive”, which I was hoping would be closer to an avocado color. Still, I’m happy with my purchase overall.

Beware of size variations!
This is my second purchase of this color (light blue) for this style of placemat. The first set was a gift. I purchased 2 sets of the light blue color (12 placemats total) for our home, and they arrived today. 2 of the 12 are 18.5 inches wide without the fringe. 10 of the 12 are 15.75 inches wide without the fringe. None of them are fully 19 inches wide without the fringe. (I have this style (also from Amazon) in another color, and all of those placemats are the same size.) If the smaller ones in this blue color shrink at all in the laundry, they will be very narrow for a full place setting. Very disappointed in the poor quality control from this manufacturer with this particular purchase.

A washing machine disaster!
This has been the most diaappointing purchase from Amazon that I have EVER HAD. THe amount of shedding, lint, blown up mess that these placemats caused my mother was downright unacceptable! Without exaggeration, my mother washed these 5 times before they no longer left a large amount of shedding and lint. The upside is, now they are a “normal” sized placemat as opposed to the extra wide mats that were sent. All washing instructions were followed... we are not at fault here!

All 12 are badly flawed
All have loops and long ends sticking out - some even on both sides. I'm not talking about one or two, I'm talking about rows of loops and some threads a couple of inches long as well as multiple loose, badly woven loops all over - sometimes in the middle, the corner, and randomly all over the flipping place like their weaving looms don't work or something! If i cut them, I am sure there will be big holes. No way there was one or two that they didn't see. All 12 mats are badly woven!

Overpriced and a bit too large
I’m pleased with these they’re a bit larger than they need to be for a napkin and the price is a little bit hefty but they are made of good quality material wash them several times and had no problems. I could probably cut them in half and make double what I purchased they are overpriced. one thing to note is that the colour is nice it’s like a speckled Taney beige which is pretty complementary to many tables
