Loom is great, but.....
I bought this for my wife. She enjoys making the pot holders as gifts for friends and family. The metal loom works very well. However, the loops that come with it are of very poor quality. Many will not even fit the loom. If the manufacturer would improve the quality of the loops and make the hook sturdier, it would be an even better product. Most people will not mind paying a little extra for the improvements

Sturdy, basic metal loom at a reasonable price
This loom is very similar to the one I had as a child in the 1960s. The loom frame is sturdy red-painted metal. The length of the entire weaving hook is shorter than the one I learned with, and the hook on the end of it is much shorter and narrower than on my original, making it a bit difficult to keep the loop attached to the hook. Also, because the entire weaving hook is just an inch or two longer than the loom itself, it can be difficult to maneuver it when you have pushed it all the way across the loom, especially when you are almost finished with the potholder and the tension on the the woven piece is very tight. (If you know how to make a potholder, on these things, you will understand what I mean.) I recommend this over any plastic loom, and the price for other brands of these kits seems very inflated. This kit has enough cotton loops for two potholders, with a variety of colors included. (You need 36 loops per 51/2 inch square potholder.)

Excellent metal loom with metal hook.
Excellent metal loom. We have gone through so many of the cheap plastic looms, I finally decided to see if the loom was offered in metal. I found this loom and bought it. We liked the first one so much, we bought another one. I will not buy another plastic one again and if we give one as a gift, we will only give this metal one from here on out. The hook is durable and metal, and the metal frame is sturdy, much sturdier than I anticipated. There are things that I would improve about the hook, but for this price, I am very please. My one complaint is the bands that came with it. The first one, the bands/loops were great. They were just as I expected. The second loom we ordered the bands/loops were falling apart and stringy. I am so very disappointed in the quality of loops in the second one. I assume that we just got a bad set of loops. The loom itself is so great that I am still giving it 5 stars because that is why I bought the loom to begin with. I did not buy it for the loops/bands.I know some have said it is hard for younger kids to do, and I agree, but I sit with my 4 year old daughter and we do it together, once she gets the hang of it, she'll be off doing it by herself in no time. We will need to make more friends in order for all these potholders to find homes.Enjoy your new metal loom, quick buying the disposable plastic ones. I wish I would have known these were out there 3 plastic looms ago.

Beautiful, fine quality loom
I still love making potholders and this Schylling loom fits the bill. Use 100% cotton loops for potholders; nylon loops are not thick enough and might burn your hands (they make colorful, pretty coasters and other crafts, though). I've recently bought one of these looms for a friend -- am waiting for her reaction! You can also use knitting yarn on the Schilling metal loom to make potholders are squares for other crafty things you make. Do a Google search for a pattern or a U Tube to help you get started with this yarn/loom project. See attached photo of yarn on loom -- not this Schylling loom, but you can use it for the same project.Enjoy!

Buyer Beware
Disappointing. Not looking to change the world with this purchase and didn't expect to pay a lot for what I bought. However, the cheapness of the cotton loops they provide was the only thing my 8 yo daughter could talk about while making the potholder. She doesn't know the difference quality can make in a product, all she knows is the loops were constantly fraying, strands of the cotton were all over the piece making it look very shabby, and they kept getting hung up on the metal tines, making it worse. Will not purchase this product again.

Poor quality Loops
The loom itself is metal & very sturdy. However the hook is too short, and the loops that are supplied are so cheap that they were already fraying in the bag. I bought this for my 7 yr old granddaughter who was all excited to try it. But it’s been too difficult because of the poor quality of the loops. Also the hook is way to short to be able to weave the entire length of the loom and still be able to pull the loop through and hook it to the other side. I would not recommend this product, except that the loom is metal & sturdy. That’s the only thing good about this kit.

GREAT METAL LOOM!!!
When I was little, we used to make potholders on long trips (before cell phones and electronic games). Recently my kids decided to give up their electronics for a trip and I was happy to provide other things for them to do on the long drive. We went to our local craft store and bought a plastic potholder loom. My son was even enjoying it when we stopped to grab a bit he put the nearly finished potholder on the loom into the back window. The loom warped in less than an hour and was unusable. So, I went on a search for a more durable loom and found this great metal on for not much more than we paid for the one made of warping plastic. I will also say the quality of the plastic loom was questionable before it warped because it flexed. I am glad someone still makes a metal loom because the cotton loops vary in size sometimes and require some stretching. the plastic loom simply could not accommodate any pressure.

Made in China
I'm disappointed. I try to purchase only toys made in the USA. I could not find anything on this toy indicating where it was made so I asked a question, was this toy made in the USA. I got 2 replies. One said that one of her looms had USA stamped on it but that she didn't have the box. I tried to enlarge the photo of the box to see where it was made but could not read anything clearly. So, after searching the Schylling brand online and not finding anything specific about where the toys are made I bought one. Much to my disappointment the box says "made in china". I could have and should have gotten the more popular Harrisville looms but wanted a different color so the girls could tell them apart. I'm as much disappointed in Amazon for not making it more clear where an item is made.
