Powerwax Artists Cold Wax

The only place I can find water based wax for painting with acrylics is on Amazon. This product is wonderful for adding texture to acrylics.

I have been experimenting with encaustic techniques lately. I like the result, but it is a messy process and I have 3 cats so can't leave my supplies out.I saw an artist on you tube who uses this so thought I would try it.It is a great product! It gives a depth and shine to your artwork that approximates encaustic, but it isnot as cloudy. You can mix it with watercolor paint or acrylic paint or put it over your finished painting.I love playing with it and plan to purchase more. A little goes a long way, unless you work really big!

After a couple of week I started to notice a strange yellowish growth on the top of the product that quickly turned grey. Mold. I called the manufacturer and told them. They claimed to have no knowledge but suggested I scrape off the top layer and use clean tools in it. I had already done that but did it again. Since that communication I have seen maybe a half dozen fellow artists with the same issues of mold. At this point I have skimmed off more than half of it trying to maintain a clean surface. Extremely disappointing as I love the product.

I used to love this stuff , it was creamy , shiny and made beautiful wax techniques . fast forward to the new batch ( September 24) in the cans …. it is completely different and stinks of solvent . it’s also hard and lumpy. when i complained i was sent a video on how to use the new formula which says to mix it with paint first . doesn’t work . the wax still goes on and lumpy and matt and has lost the manipulative effects i loved . the company are gaslighting me and assuring me there is no solvent in it …….but they are admitting that it’s a new formula and that they couldn’t source the old materials so had to change it . i had zero instructions on how to use it in the box and no warning that it had changed , so i was sold something under false pretenses . when i asked for a refund - “we can’t because it’s used “….seriously ?! . but “ we will make an exception because you’ve bought from us before “ . wow that’s so kind of you . “ please pay for return shipping “ . No thanks .
