MIN Mold Test Kit, Mold Testing Kit (3 Tests). Lab Analysis and Expert Consultation Included

My son has had a cough for 3 weeks which doctors declared as “allergy related”. This prompted me to purchase the diy mold test kit. I’m so glad that I did this. The test showed “low levels” of toxic mold in the ceiling in our bedroom. We immediately contacted a local mold testing company to get an air quality test done. We had a huge mold problem and have since moved out. If you even remotely suspect mold, you need to buy this. Since we’ve moved out, I realized that I was experiencing severe mold toxicity symptoms which have all completely gone away. Living in the mold, I had headaches that lasted for days, crippling anxiety, light sensitivity, stomach pain. It took moving out to connect the dots between the mold and my symptoms. I’m so thankful for this product.

I bought this test kit and have called their support team 4 times with no response! The kit may be good, but I can't even get someone to call me back so I will not be purchasing this kit again. EVER.

After I received the test kit and read the directions I see that the suspected mold must be visible in order for this test to work. There is an adhesive strip in the kit that must be pressed against the suspicious area, removed and then sent in for analysis. The adhesive strip removed some of the suspicious material because it adheres to the adhesive strip. When I ordered the kit I thought that the kit was designed to be placed in an open room to test for airborne mold/mildew spores. I re-read the product description and it clearly states that the kit is an adhesive strip for surfaces. I'm not sure how I missed this--perhaps I was confusing this kit with another type of kit? So I didn't know how many stars to give it since I never used the kit. My guess is that it would work if the mold is visible. But if the mold is visible, I would know that I have a mold issue--why would I need to test? I was looking for a kit that would test the presence of airborne mold/mildew spores (i.e. not visible).

This test kit was incredibly helpful--and easy to use (I know nothing about this type of stuff). Had some superficial mold on an aluminum surface in a room where my daughter plays. Was really concerned. This kit allowed me to test a sample, send it to the lab and get the results back quickly. Luckily it was a pretty benign mold, but I still need to remove it. After doing a ton of research, was super confused as to how to best take care of it. Called the company and spoke with Michael for some quick and basic advice. He was incredibly responsive, professional and helpful. Super grateful I found this product. Crossing my fingers I will not need it in the future--but if I do, I would definitely purchase it again. (As I am re-reading this, it totally sounds like a fake review--it's not--I'm actually just a mom who is super happy with this product/service).

Easy to use and send off for results. The one thing I did not like about it is that the test could not distinguish aspergillus from penicillium which is a very important point. Aspergillus is the commonly the culprit in "toxic mold" which can cause severe respiratory (lung) and blood infections resulting in permanent damage to the lung or even death. Penicillium is a benign organism as it is common in the natural environment and does not cause infection in humans (actually it was the original source of the antibiotic penicillin, hence the name). For this reason, I give the product 3 stars as it can not differentiate one of the worse fungi from one of the most harmless ones! This distinction can be made by labs but I guess not this one which processes the samples you send off when you buy this product.UpdateAfter further research, most of the cheaper mold tests (under 100 dollars) are based on a visual test of the sample which does not allow for differentiating aspergillosis from penicillium. Given the cost of this test being <50 dollars by DIY Mold Test, it is the cheapest mold test out there. Keep in mind it is limited on what it can report compared to other mold tests that use PCR and are more sensitive and specific to various types of molds including aspergillosis and penicillin but will cost you at least 120 dollars.
