When a TV reporter is injured in a Dallas-bound jet crash, she enters a world of mistaken identity and political intrigue in this action-packed romantic suspense novel -- a Globe and Mail bestseller! The crash of a Dallas-bound jet isn't just a tragedy for TV reporter Avery Daniels; it's an act of fate that hands her a golden opportunity to further her career. But it also makes her the crucial player in a drama of violent passions and deadly desires. After plastic surgery transforms her face, Avery is mistaken for the glamorous, selfish wife of Tate Rutledge, the famous senatorial candidate and member of a powerful Texas dynasty. As she lays helpless in the hospital, Avery makes a shattering discovery: someone close to Tate planned to assassinate him. Now, to save him, she must live another woman's life -- and risk her own. Review: wonderful story - Suspenseful and riveting. I had no idea on where the story was going..very well written and most enjoyable! I couldnโt it it downโฆ Review: Wow, I have found a my new favorite author - I have never read any of Sandra Brown's novels, but after reading Mirror Image, I will become a frequent reader of her works. I realize this book was originally released in the early 90's, so it is a little dated (would've liked to seen it updated to present day, technology and all). But the story was so compelling, the dated material became irrelevant later in the book. I enjoyed the quick pace of the book , the mystery, and the bombshell conclusion, that I sat back muttering, "what just happened?" It would be nice to see this book on screen whether TV, or big screen. It has that much going for it. All of the characters were well flushed out and it was definitely a page turner. I couldn't put it down. It is now my mission to continue to read Ms. Brown's works, she is a very skilled and entertaining writer. Loved it!!!!

In the time before cell phones
The story is intriguing, a misidentified woman falling into the life of another and deciding to continue the charade to solve a mystery and perhaps save a life. I didn't realize at first that this book was written over 20 years ago until I noticed the absence of cell phones and personal computers, or the thing we all take for granted...the internet. It ended up being a glimpse of how we lived in the not too distant past, which seems like the technological middle ages. The story holds up, and held my attention, even if it is dated by the absence of our most cherished technological conveniences. What didn't hold my attention is what came to seem like the gratuitous sex scenes, which became more and more boring with time. BTDT, move on. Fortunately they were easy to page past and come back to the meat of the story. If you're a fan of romance novels, this might be your cuppa tea. If you're a fan of the mystery story, skip those pages and you might find a book that's an easy enough read and that still keeps the story going...

Clever Storyline!
This compelling story held my interest from start to finish. Avery Daniels survived a horrific plane crash while rescuing three-year old Mandy Rutledge from the fiery flames of the wreckage. When she revived consciousness, she was addressed as Mrs. Rutledge in the hospital. Intubated and completely unable to speak, she could not communicate this mistake in her identity. Moreover, her hands were burned and entirely bandaged, incapacitating her from writing anything. Tate Rutledge, her "husband" came to visit her every day. He explained to her that her face had been badly damaged and needed major surgery, and he had secured the services of the best plastic surgeon available to restore her beauty. Avery's face, except for one eye, was completely covered. She desperately tried to communicate with eye movement and tears for him not to go through with this surgery. Ironically, Avery resembled Carole Rutledge, the woman whose identy she would now acquire. Tate Rutledge was running for the U.S. Senate. He was wealthy, handsome, but no longer in love with his wife. Carole Rutledge was a manipulative, cheating woman who cared little for her daughter Mandy. Avery now had to become this woman. She spent three months in a private clinic recuperating from her surgery, and falling deeply in love with Tate. She also learned that someone in his family wanted to kill him. This person came to her when she was in ICU and told her that their plans would still go through no matter that she was injured in the plane crash. Prior to the plane crash, Avery was a journalist. Now, she was determined, in the guise of Carole Rutledge, to find out who was trying to kill Tate. She also had to gain Tate's trust and love before she revealed her true identity. She moves into the family ranch with Tate's family: his father Nelson and wife Zee; his brother Jack and his alcoholic wife and their promiscuous daughter Fancy, and Tate's Campaign Manager, Eddy, who lives above the garage. She is suspicious of all of them. Avery eventually learns the truth, but almost at the risk of her own life. This work was well written. The characters are fully developed. And the tension is heightened numerous times throughout this story. Amazon Verified Purchase.

Implausible Mirror Image
Imagine that two young and similar looking lovely women, one with her daughter, board a plane and sit in the same row. The mother, Carole takes the window seat that was meant for the other woman, with the child in the centre seat. The plane crashes and the other woman, Avery, saves the child but the mother is killed and burnt beyond recognition. Sounds reasonable so far? The surviving woman is badly burnt, can't talk or move because she is totally bandaged except one eye. The husband, Tate, an aspiring US senate candidate, finds a plastic surgeon who tells him he can recreate her burnt and disfigured face back to her normal looks in one operation. Despite an impending breakdown in his marriage he stays near her during her recovery. Does that seem reasonable? While she is incapacitated Avery is visited by an unknown family member who whispers in her ear that their plans to kill Tate on election day are unaltered. Avery is very scared as she has become attached to Tate during her recovery. Does that seem reasonable? After she recovers, Avery is immediately accepted by all of the extended family as Carole, Tate's bitchy and promiscuous wife. Tate also accepts her as Carole, despite a huge change in her character and many obvious discrepancies. Despite this his caring time ends when he tells her that the marriage is still over as soon as the election is held. Does that seem reasonable or just plain implausible? While IMHO the plot was just plain implausible, Sandra Brown's writing skills made a ridiculous plot readable and enjoyable. It was only these skills that kept my star rating at the OK level. This is one of Brown's early works (1990) that are now being released on Kindle for the first time.

Very good read
I really liked the story, the build up to the conclusion. The characters were believed although a tiny bit far fetched. All in all it was entertaining and kept my interest to the end. I would read other books of this author. It did leave one character without a conclusion, but it was a minor issue.

Gripping from the beginning to the end. Could hardly put this book down. Excellent storyline.
Story was different and compelling. The twist towards the end hit the right note. Five star rating justly deserved. Brilliant.

Sehr spannend
