Every bit as addictive, enjoyable, and authentic as the original.
To clarify right off the bat, I ordered this (disc) on Black Friday for the Xbox One.Be prepared, because as soon as you insert the disc and DL the content to your HD, an auto-update kicks in. This took over three hours. I don't want to make a big deal of that, but felt like a warning was necessary.I'd spent *many* hours (equaling days) playing the original iteration of this game back in the late '00s, and its successors never quite inspired the same enjoyment as I felt when playing Modern Warfare. As far as I was/am concerned, CoD4 always held the top spot of the multiplayer genre. I've had it less than a week and already spent 10+ hours playing online (and at level 32, on the way to my first Prestige). When researching this remastered version, it was important not much had changed. I didn't want a lot of added weapons, kill-streaks, or abilities. As of this point in time, I can tell you the biggest differences are the emblems, character customization, and greatly increased number of custom loadout slots (25 total, so the number of times you can prestige has gone way up).Another concern was matchmaking. Were enough people playing it; and if so, would there even be enough in the specific match types I enjoy (HC DM, for the record)? There are enough, but not nearly the amount as the old days; so if you enjoyed the deep cut match modes, you might have a hard time getting two teams together to run a match. They've also taken some of the current match modes and added them to this iteration; specifically Gun Game & Kill Confirmed. I've only been able to get a squad together on the Core version of Kill Confirmed though, so be warned. Again, the more obscure the match type (on XBox, anyway), the more difficult to get a lobby together. Not really the game's fault though. If you were a fan of the original, you won't be disappointed. It kept all the essentials we love about the original, and put a shine on them. To put it in perspective, I'd gotten so turned off by the CoD franchise, the most recent one I'd purchased was BO2 at release (and played up until early this Summer), so it had been a while since I invested any money/emotion into this series. Now I find myself itching to play CoD:MW remastered each day, and having to exercise self-discipline.

Just like I remembered it - with a fresh coat of paint. Fantastic
Odds are if you're picking this up, you've played it before. I had this on my Xbox 360, but it seems like a long time ago that this game was relevant. Call of Duty has come a long way and changed a lot since Modern Warfare, and I've at least dabbled in every iteration along the way. So I wasn't sure going in if this was just going to be a nostalgia trip or if it actually holds up in 2017.The short answer is that it absolutely holds up. But if you're used to Advanced Warfare, Infinite... Titanfall 2 or similar, this feels like a step backwards, but I mean that in a very good way. It's back to the basics - no gimmicks like flying around, running on walls, sliding or diving kills... stuff like that. This is just good, old school run and gun, and feels like it takes much more fundamental skill than the newer versions. That being said - the people playing this one online are really good... after a lengthy Call of Duty break, it takes some time to get re-accustomed.The graphics look fantastic and are on par with recent Xbox One games. Not the best of the best, but definitely a huge upgrade from the previous gen graphics. And mechanically it is identical.Jumping back into the campaign felt great, and I remembered a lot of it better than many other forgettable shooter campaigns.Long story short - I'd say jumping back into Modern Warfare is a good idea. Fantastically remastered version of a great game.
