After a confirmed bedbug incident during a recent hotel stay, I immediately bagged all my luggage and started researching how to avoid bringing an infestation home. Of the heaters on Amazon, the ZappBug looked the most attractive: collapsible, only requires one power circuit, large enough to fit a suitcase, and no user reports of unsafe operation of the heating element. I'm pleased to report the ZappBug has exceeded nearly all of my expectations. The heating bag is actually very nicely constructed; the zippered compartment on the top is well made, the interior insulation is solid, and the size is perfectly appropriate for processing suitcases one at a time. The real surprise was the heater, though - I was expecting something janky and repurposed, but it's actually a custom-built unit that's ZappBug logoed right from the factory. It's well engineered for safety with a cutoff switch on the bottom, and it's MUCH quieter than other reviews had led me to expect - I'm currently sitting only about 10 feet from it and the noise level is comparable to a quiet desk fan. The heater heats well, although it's not exactly a speedy operation - you'll want to allocate several hours for each suitcase, although smaller loads of suspect items can be processed more quickly. My only real disappointment is with the two bundled accessories - the shutoff timer and the temperature sensor. The shutoff timer works well enough, but it's pretty cheaply made and doesn't show you how much time is remaining - I found it more effective to set a separate timer for myself on my smartphone, since it is good practice to never leave a heater unattended anyway. I have more significant complaints about the thermometer: it frequently loses connection for me as the cycle progresses, which I suspect may be related to the sensor heating up beyond the standard 130F maximum operating temperature of AAA batteries. I tried swapping the included heavy duty batteries for alkalines, but that didn't seem to help. As other reviewers have said, you're best served discarding the included one and pairing the ZappBug with a better sensor; I've ordered a Bluetooth grill thermometer I plan to try for future loads to see if it's more reliable. I appreciate the ability to hide the wireless transmitter in your luggage, but I wish the ZappBug folks would include a slightly higher quality sensor. In the interim, allowing the sensor to cool down between loads has seemed to help. But those are minor quibbles with bundled accessories, not with the main heater itself. I couldn't be happier with the main heating unit; it's the perfect size for use with a standard carryon suitcase, and the peace of mind it's providing our family that we didn't bring home any hitchhikers is invaluable. We've treated most of our possessions now, and I've run through several delicate items with full success. Electronics worked well and came out unharmed, including several laptops, tablets and smartphones. A cherished stuffed animal also survived the journey in the "magic sauna" unscathed; he is made of 100% polyester fibers, if that helps others checking reviews to see if their own stuffed animal will be safe. The only signs we found of potential issues were with items containing glues or meltable solids; the bindings on books can become a little fragile for a few minutes after treatment is complete, the glue on the soles of our tennis shoes became temporarily molten, and our deodorant turned to a gooey gel. The best strategy here is to just leave the items in place and turn off the heater, allowing them to cool without moving them; everything re-solidified nicely when we took that approach. Five stars for a well-engineered solution to a tricky problem. If ZappBug included a better thermometer, I'd be hard pressed to find any fault at all in the system!

So far this is a fantastic heater. We have used it for about 15-20 items that we cannot put in a dryer. We treated all our carry-on suitcases and other luggage pieces. Needed to do this after a family member likely brought bedbugs home after travelling on vacation. The included wireless thermometer has had no issues and has worked flawlessly. I compared the temperature to an oven thermometer and the temperatures both reached the required level and were comparable. This is a must have item to use along with all the other things you must do to rid your home of bedbugs. Highly recommended. Would purchase again. Plan to use this after each time we travel.

I've been traveling all over Europe for the last 3 years and have had amazingly good luck avoiding bed bugs. And then it happened. I ordered this to be waiting at my house when I returned home. It was super easy to set up and get started baking my luggage and contents. You can't just stick in a suitcase full of clothes, things had to be separated for good heat flow. I just stored things in heavy duty lawn bags, tied well and in my garage with the ZappBug. Be sure and put the sensor deep inside whatever you are baking so it can let you know accurately when it reaches or exceeds 120 degrees. That can take a while, depending on the room temp and what you are baking, so be patient. Once it reaches the correct temp, leave it baking for an hour and it's safe. It took 3 loads to get it all done but we are certain we won't have a problem. I noticed another person said they travel a lot and. use this thing automatically after each trip, just in case. I plan to do that from now on. It's well made and the shape and size is perfect for my luggage.

We just got back from a weeklong road trip through an old mining town in rural Nevada—cute little motels, antique shops, and lots of dust. We ran everything through it: backpacks, clothes, shoes, some books from a dusty local bookstore, even our kid’s favorite stuffed animal. The unit is deceptively roomy—we fit way more inside than I expected without needing to do any weird bagging or boxing. Just zip it, heat it, done. Dry heat = no chemicals = happy dad. What I love most is the peace of mind. We were able to keep all our memories from the trip without worrying about bringing bugs into our home. It folds flat too, so we stored it easily in the hall closet. Definitely a must-have for travelers, especially if you're venturing into older hotels or charming but questionable roadside inns like we did. Highly recommend this to anyone who travels or just wants a chemical-free, effective way to deal with potential infestations. It’s like a bed bug quarantine zone—but in the best way possible!

I am not sure if I reviewed this in the past, but here it is. The product sounds good in paper, but in practice....... not really. It struggles to heat items that are thicker than a shirt. The temperatures never got above 101°F, even when nothing was inside. I considered returning it, but kinda forgot. The included net is also very flimsy and will touch the ground when anything heavier than a pair of pants is placed on it. It's not heavy and folds away compactly, but it is a pain to fold away. It can be stubborn to fold in. The thing that sets it to turn off also stopped working after the first rounds of use. Which sucks cause I can't leave it alone and now have to keep a timer on hand. If you're looking to buy this..... It might work for you, but I would suggest going for the one with two of them.... maybe it could actually reach 120°F with that extra bit of help.

Hello Lets be real, this thing is wayyyyy over priced for what it REALLY is. This is a fold out hamper that zips around and a little heater that you put inside. If you can replicate the encasement, maybe with like a bin, trash can bin, cooler with a similar thermal encasement, and maybe monitor it so that you don't burn your house down, thats what you get here. Its a hamper, a heater and they do provide a remote control thermometer so that you can monitor the heat inside and make sure that you reach the necessary 120 degrees. But the heater is probably worth about $15, the hamper is probably worth about $12-15 (it's a fairly nice size), wireless thermometer $9.99, batteries $3.99. This thing is worth $50 Top! So to make a profit this company could double the price at lets say $100 and do great, but charging $200 is just plan greedy. I already regret purchasing this. It's not made from anything high quality or unique. If you have a bed bug problem and you are not rich and you need this but can't afford it, make it yourself! Heater, thermometer, encasement, that's all you need. I don't know how I got bed bugs, living in NYC I guess it was inevitable, but I had lived in my apt for a year when I noticed a bedbug in my bathroom. I then started getting a rash on my arms and legs. I was done from there. It's pretty much war from here on out. Even though I noticed no bed bugs on my bed frame I took it apart and steam sprayed it with a steamer that I purchased on Amazon for $30. I also steamed around the floor all the way around the corners of the room to kill anything that I can't see. I encased my bed with a encasement that I got from target and noticed no bites the next day. My next plan is to powder around with borax, spray and heat all my clothing and small carpets. I don't think that I have a major infestation (crossing fingers). But heating your stuff is necessary to kill them off your clothes and house hold items. Now does this product work, yes it does! You can put stuff in it, close it up and let it heat to 120 degrees, which is what kills bed bugs. 3 stars for the outrageous price. Hopefully competitors will offer product for a cheaper price and make peoples lives easier.

I put this product into heavy rotation early in 2026 and it was working well and seemed to kill a lot of the bugs, especially in my shirts. At that point, I didn't need the heater to kill anymore critters and I stopped using it. I had boxed up a large number of items like books and stored them. In the last few weeks, I decided to unbox everything and put things back in their proper place. I began to put the unboxed items into the heater because the bugs made me so paranoid. Things were fine for a while but then the motor started to make interesting and unhealthy sounds. Finally, the motor died. I called Zappbug and I was expecting an inquisition. Instead, I spoke with Cameron who provided excellent customer service. He had a great demeanor and heard my sorry story. There was no BS and no resistance. He looked at my customer record and had a replacement motor sent, which arrived in a couple of days. The new motor is working very well and my paranoia is greatly diminished. I really appreciate the machine and the top notch customer service.

This thing is huge. It does a great job of heating everything. You can set things on a timer (which comes with this) or just leave it on if you have dense things like lots of books. I bought a couple of wire baskets to invert and pile things on top of so the air can flow around everything and it worked out really well*. I definitely recommend doing the same. I didnt really use the netting that comes with this because it doesnt hold much weight. Make sure you heat things for the recommended amount of time so you do not encourage bed bug evolution and resistance to high temperatures. I think one of the most important things this did for me was that it helped me not freak out as much. I could treat my stuff. I didnt have to get rid of everything i owned. I didnt have to worry about taking bed bugs with me and infecting my new place (i moved out of the infected place because my landlord wasnt treating it properly). I just had to heat treat my stuff and seal it in big heavy duty garbage bags. This was my light at the end of the tunnel. It is also great that it is a non-chemical way to treat for bedbugs so you dont have to worry about fumes or if said fumes actually got to the bedbugs. The heat will penetrate your stuff and it will kill the bedbugs. Another nice thing is that it doesnt take up a huge amount of storage space. The heater itself is like 1' x 1' and the black part collapses down. I am pretty sure it will fit overhead bin sized suitcases so if you travel anywhere and want to make sure you didnt bring bedbugs home, you can use your bed bug oven. *You could also get a board to suspend between the two blocks that come with this and pile things on top of that, but i think the air flow would be better with the baskets. Air flow is important for insuring your things are thoroughly and evenly baked.
