Ornithology

This is an educational book. You should know that from the get-go. I knew this and it covers everything you need to know about birds. It’s a textbook. Definitely not a pleasure book. If you really want to take a deep dive into knowing everything about birds, this is the book for you.

The authors have always contributed a great deal of information on bird anatomy, physiology and behavior but this edition is even better because the illustrations, which are extremely helpful, are in color. Gill and Prum are experts in the field. If you own this book, the "Handbook of Bird Biology" and "The Manual of Ornithology" you can answer any question you might have about birds.

Great book to learn ornithology with. I’m in college, so when classes moved to online this was my primary learning source. I’m almost disappointed I paid so much for university, but did most of my learning from a textbook I bought on my own. Anyways, it’s written well, has great guides examples in boxes, and the online version is pretty easy to navigate aside from not having page numbers.

I have used Gill for teaching Ornithology for about 20 years, so I was excited for a new edition. This edition is updated, and the illustrations are now color. Unlike previous editions, however, this one was written for both Ornithology students and for lay people. As such, it provides a good foundation for Ornithology lectures, but needs to be supplemented with additional material to be useful in the classroom. Non-scientists will find it to be a very thorough and readable reference on Ornithology.

Reasonable good book on ornithology, but the cost is ridiculous and not justified
